So, we are here with the detailed process of Pakistani Passport Renewal, its fees, documents required, offices, and other details.
Renewal of Pakistani Passport (Official)
- There is no restriction for renewal of a passport before its expiry (Passport & Visa Manual 2006).
- Passports having full validity of 5/10 years can be issued to the applicants even if the existing passport has not completed its validity (12 months before expiry max in case of online renewal).
- A statement mentioning the reason for obtaining a new passport before its expiry may be obtained from the applicant.
- The applicant can visit the relevant passport office along with the documents required for his/her passport renewal. The existing passport will be returned to the applicant after taking the necessary action.
Documents Required for Passport Renewal in Pakistan
There are 2 documents required to renew your passport in Pakistan unlike when you apply for a new passport. You have to take the original and valid CNIC and 1 copy of the CNIC (front and back). Also, you need to take your original passport (existing or expired) and its photocopy (1st page on both sides).

Download and print the National Bank Passport Challan Form Fees Payment. You will have to show the paid challan form to initiate your process at the Passport Office. In Executive Passport Office, you have to pay Rs.3,000 extra as service charges.
Steps to Renew Pakistani Passport
Here are the steps you have to follow at the passport office.
1. Arrival at Customer Service Counter
You will have to approach the customer service counter at the Regional Passport Office. At the counter, you will be guided about the process flow of the system and to apply for renewal. After having the requisite documents, the applicant will be guided to the Token Counter.
2. Token Counter & Photograph
You will have to show the original CNIC/Smart-Card/NICOP or Children Registration Certificate (CRC) if below 18 years of age, along with its copies and Bank Challan Form.
An official will capture your photograph and enter your primary information like CNIC number, amount of fee, application type, etc. After this, a token will be issued.
You should check the details on the token i.e. Application type, Priority type, CNIC/CRC number and amount of fee deposited. If any information is wrong, immediately report it to the official at the token counter. Otherwise, you have to go through twice to all the subsequent stages.
3. Biometric Data Capture (Fingerprints)
After the 2nd step, you have to proceed to the Biometric Counter on your turn (as your token number appears on the counter). An official will capture your fingerprints (right thumb, right index finger, Left Thumb and Left index).
4. Data Entry
It is time for data entry. Move to the Data Entry Counter as soon as your token number appears on it. The official will enter the required data. You can also see the data entry screen and see if all the data entered is right. Inform the official immediately if any modification is required.
Remember: Provide your valid Mobile No. / Email ID at Data Entry counter. It will help you receive your passport status via SMS / email from 9988 / Email Raabta Service.
After the data entry is completed Data Entry Form will be printed by the operator and will be presented to you for rechecking/verification.
You will have to verify all its contents by signing the form.
The form will be given to the applicant for further processing.
Note: Any change in the data should be pointed out at this stage. Once the information has been saved, for any modification the token will have to be canceled and you will have to go through the entire process again. After allowing the “go ahead” of the data by the assistant director, no change in the data will be possible.
5. Verification as Per Office Record (ECL/BL)
You will approach the ECL/BL Desk along with your form. The verification against Exit Control List (ECL) and Black List (BL) will be carried out now. The official on the desk will affix a clearance stamp (if cleared) on the data form after checking the record.
For the persons borne on ECL or BL, their passport process would be stopped here until their removal from such lists, as per rules/SOP.
6. Interview & Decision by Assistant Director
It is the final step in this process. You will have to appear before Assistant Director / Officer In-charge when at your turn. Take all the relevant documents and the Data Form.
The Assistant Director/ Officer In-charge will interview you concerning the National Status/credibility. Upon his/her satisfaction, he/she will allow (“Go ahead”). Otherwise, he/she can ask for additional documents. If required he/she will refer the case to the Security Agency for determination of your National Status as a citizen of Pakistan.
The Assistant Director will defer the case if you are below 18 years of age and will hand over the printed form to the applicant for attestation of his data form, from a Government Gazetted officer. Attester will have to write his/her CNIC No./ Contact No. besides affixing by-name official stamp on the form.
On production of data form (duly attested), the deferred token of minor will be allowed go-ahead. After being allowed to “go ahead” by Assistant Director, you can leave the Passport Office by taking the token generated in Step 2 as the process is complete.
In case the matter is deferred due to some additional documents or case referred to the Security Agency for determination of National Status by the Assistant Director/ Officer In-charge, the applicant may also leave the office, as the remaining process will be completed upon receipt of documents/clearance report from Security Agency. The applicant would be informed upon receipt of the clearance report telephonically.
Passport Delivery (Collection of Passport)
You can visit the Passport Delivery Counter along with the original token, on the given date for passport collection.
The passport will only be handed over to you or your blood relative. A passport can also be delivered on an authority letter given by you to any other person along with the original token. However, the passports of children will not be delivered on an authority letter.
You will also be intimated about the status of your passport via SMS service 9988 inside Pakistan. Email Raabta service will inform about the status of the passport to overseas Pakistanis (if they have given their correct Mobile No. / Email ID at the data entry stage).
Note: Passports dispatched from the Production facility for delivery to the applicants within the prescribed processing period, can be tracked through SMS Service / Helpline but to reach their destination i.e. respective Regional Passport Office (RPO) or Foreign Mission (FM) they may take some shipment time.

Online Passport Renewal

Cautions
Online applicants are hereby informed that online passport renewal application, may require fresh fingerprint forms through auto-generated emails (03) times at their registered email addresses if their fingerprints form were rejected/unverified consecutively due to quality parameters set forth in the fingerprints system.
In case these fingerprint forms are found rejected/unverified despite 03 times consecutive attempts, the online automated system will hold the issuance of online passports. However, such online applicants may approach Pakistan missions abroad for issuance of passports in the renewal category on the basis of fee authorization issued by DGI&P Headquarters for utilization of passport fees deposited by online applicants through their credit cards.
