Passport Application Process

It is the step that is going to help people a lot who are concerned about how to apply for passport in Pakistan. Once you’ve gathered all the mandatory/required documents for passport application, head over to your nearest passport office (locations later in the blog). But before you go there, make sure you’ve paid the required fee at a designated branch of National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and take the Original paid bank challan receipt with you. Otherwise, you will not be able to go through the following steps:

  1. Arrive at the Customer Service Counter – Once you’ve reached a passport office, go to the Customer Service Counter where you will be told about the whole process.
  2. Token Counter and Capturing of Photograph – Here all the required documents will be checked. Once they are found to be in order, an official will take your photograph and issue you a token. Read the details on the token carefully and if there is any discrepancy, inform the official immediately for correction.
  3. Biometrics – Once your token number has been displayed or called, approach the Biometric Counter and have your fingerprints taken.
  4. Data entry – Once done, your token number will appear again on the display screen or called in which case you must approach a Data Entry Counter. An official will take all the required data from you. While he/she types, you can see the screen and in the case of any mistake have your record corrected. Once done, he/she will print out a form which you must check meticulously. Once you are satisfied, sign the form.
  5. Verification – You will now proceed to the Exit Control List (ECL)/Black List (BL) counter with the form. An official will run your record through the ECL/BL list and once he/she is satisfied, a clearance stamp will be affixed on the form.
  6. Interview – The final step is to appear before Assistant Director/Officer In-charge along with your documents and Data Form. Once your token number appears on the display screen, approach the said officer. Once he/she is satisfied with your credibility and national status, he/she will approve your application with “Go ahead”. The said officer has the power to ask for further documentation, defer your case, refer your application to a security agency for further investigation into your Pakistani citizenship, etc.
  7. Passport Delivery (Collection of Passport) – If everything is cleared, you will be asked to visit the centre again along with the original token on the given date to collect your passport. The passport will be given to the applicant only, to his/her blood relative or on authority letter with original token (adults only). For minor applicants, an authority letter does not work.
