Aiming to provide convenience to the public, the federal government has introduced a new initiative allowing citizens to renew their passports online. This user-friendly e-passport facility is intended to eliminate the need to visit passport offices and endure long queues and waiting times. Prior to this digital initiative, obtaining a renewed passport involved standing in long queues for hours in sweltering heat, and unnecessary delays and inconvenience were commonplace. Now, citizens can bid farewell to the tedious and time-consuming process of physically going to passport offices for renewal.
How to Renew Pakistani Passport Online: Documents & Fees
This service is available only for renewal and not for issuance of new machine-readable passports, modifications, loss of passport, addition of new pages, etc. This facility is available for Pakistanis living in Pakistan and abroad, holding machine readable passports.
Required Documents (Adults)
To renew a machine-readable passport online, you will need the following documents if your current passport is expiring within the next twelve (12) months:
- Color scanned copies of your valid CNIC, NICOP, Smart CNIC, or NICOP on both sides.
- Color scanned copies of your existing passport, including the first two pages and one random page requested by the system.
- Color scanned copy of a valid Visa, Aqama, Residence Permit, Asylum card, or Other Nationality Passport.
Required Documents (Minors – Less Than 18 Years)
To apply for a passport for minors below 18 years, the following documents are required:
- Color scanned copies of the minor’s valid NICOP, Smart card (both sides), Computerized B-Form, or Family Registration Certificate.
- Color scanned copies of both parents’ valid National ID Cards (both sides).
- Guardianship certificate or court decision in case of separation.
- Color scanned copy of the minor’s attestation form (available in the download tab).
- Color scanned copy of the Death Certificate if either parent has passed away.
- Color scanned copy of a valid Visa, Aqama, Residence Permit, Asylum card, or Other Nationality Passport.

How to Renew Pakistani Passport Online: Step-by-Step Guide
Visit this website https://onlinemrp.dgip.gov.pk/ and follow these steps:
- Click on the “Get Started” button.
- Register your account:
- If you are in Pakistan, you’ll receive an SMS and email code for registration.
- If you are abroad, all necessary codes will be sent via email.
- Create your machine-readable passport application and provide the required details.
- Enter the address for your passport delivery.
- Pay the fee using a Credit Card/Debit Card (Visa/Master only).
- Provide all the necessary personal details, including present and permanent addresses.
- Upload your photograph and the supporting documents as required.
- Download the form and capture the 4 fingerprints as prompted by the system.
- Set the scanner at 600 DPI, JPEG/JPG, and Grayscale, and then scan and upload the form.
- Review all the provided information, sign the declaration, and submit your application.
The government claims it takes less than 17 minutes to complete the entire process.
