If you don’t have a dining table, no worries! OLX has thousands of dining tables listed. Find a perfect table according to your budget and requirements.
The Basics
The key to setting your dinner table like a pro is simple. Get the bones right (which includes cutlery, knives and glassware) and then dress up everything else depending upon the artistic theme you want to create.
The principle of table setting is “easy to find, easy to use”. With that said, set the cutlery according to the order of its use. Place the cutlery, starting from outside and working inwards with each course.
- Dinner Plate
The dinner plate should be placed at the center with forks on the left and knives on the right side (their blade edges should face inwards).
- Spoons, Forks and Knives
The soup spoons should be placed right next to the knives. Lay the dessert forks and spoons above the dinner plate. Make sure that the spoon bowl faces left and fork prongs faces right.
- Glassware
Glassware should also be placed on the upper right-side of the dinner plate.
- Side plates
Side plates should always be placed on the left, next to the dinner plate.
Tablecloth
Nothing says “special occasion” louder than a crisp tablecloth. As per a general rule, the tablecloth should ideally fall a foot below the table top. It should be at least 15cm above the ground. For hosting large dinner parties, lay a blanket over the table before spreading the tablecloth. This will help you prevent the table from hot spillages and dish marks.
Placemats
Set the placemats in front of each chair at the dinner table. The ideal distance between each placemat is 30cm for more comfort.
Napkins
There is no hard and fast rule for the placement of napkins. Usually, it is folded in half and placed on the left side of the dinner plate. For a more fine dining experience, use linen or cotton napkins instead of paper ones. For a large feast, you can do it in buffet style; wrap the cutlery in napkins. Ornately folded napkins should always be placed at the center of the dining table.
Accessories
That’s where all the fun part begins! Where the rest of the dining table demands forensic precision, the accessories should always flourish with artistic expression. Scented candles, fresh flowers, bold table runners and napkin rings can all add a sense of character to the dining table. Start with choosing a color palette. To add a touch of luxury, tie up the cutlery with a colorful ribbon.
