It seems like OnePlus has followed Apple into unveiling a red OnePlus 6 phone. The phone has a shiny crimson finish and also boasts silver accents. The phone is equipped with 128 GB of storage and an 8 GB RAM which will be available from 10 July onwards. Apple introduced red-colored devices in order to support a nonprofit (RED) that supports HIV/AIDS programs and provide medicine, counseling and testing in order to prevent the transmission of HIV. By doing so, Apple has raised $160 million by selling its red devices. Apple has stated that by launching (RED) products, it aims to eradicate AIDS.
However, OnePlus has not yet stated that it has ambitions to do the same and the red phone will not have any additional features apart from being shimmery red that looks glamorous. OnePlus is aiming to launch the red variant in India and North America first. It has the same 16 MP dual camera at the rear and a 20 MP front camera as the original OnePlus 6. The red variant touts a glossy back and the OnePlus logo has silver accent to give the phone a premium look. According to OnePlus, the red phone depicts “inner confidence and courage” and “personality and enthusiasm”. OnePlus has used a film coating process to color the phone red which can last for years to come as it is deemed durable by OnePlus.
The rear of the phone also features an oval fingerprint scanner; however, the scanner is oddly positioned as the camera can be easily smudged if you are not careful while reaching for the sensor. OnePlus phones are well known for providing amazing and cutting-edge technology and features for a fraction of price compared to other brands’ flagship phones like Samsung Galaxy S9. According to analysts, you can save approximately $150 and still get a comparable performance and features from OnePlus 6 as you get from a Galaxy S9.
Moving forward, OnePlus 6 has many flaws too, most prominently the facial recognition feature and some security flaws. This alludes to the notion that sometimes cheaper devices can be cumbersome to own. Previously, OnePlus also introduced a similar product for OnePlus 5T in Lava Red. It was able to sell out all the pieces sooner than it was anticipated which showed that such phones were in vogue. Then Apple also successfully launched and sold the red variant of iPhone. Therefore, OnePlus decided to capitalize on such a venture and tap the segment of the market that wants something unique and unorthodox.
