Recently Tesla CEO Elon Musk went on Twitter to ask followers for suggestions regarding an all-electric pickup truck. The dialogue that ensued revealed some interesting information about the Tesla’s take on an electric pickup truck. Musk revealed that the truck will have a dynamically adjustable suspension that will change according to the load. It will also feature “crazy” torque, dual motor and an all-wheel drive system. All of these features will come standard with the electric pickup truck from Tesla. The truck will have a 360-degree camera system, sonar and will have the ability to automatically park itself.
Furthermore, the truck will have a mysterious feature that will have a special built-in senor that Musk teased in the Twitter dialogue. Although Musk portrayed features that he thought would be best for a Tesla truck, he welcomed suggestions from the public to get inculcated into the design of the truck. Musk has been referring to a Tesla truck since 2013; however, last December he stated that it will arrive after the new Model Y which means that the electric truck can be anticipated to arrive in 2019 or later.
He has also asserted that the pickup truck will be bigger in size than the Ford F-150 and it will have a “game-changing” feature which he did not reveal. Alongside the SUVs, the pickups are one of the hottest segments in the automotive world. Hence, it seems reasonable that Tesla wants to venture into the pickup truck market. Seeing that the company has been facing production issues and the manufacturing dates of Model 3 have been pushed back, the advent of an all-electric truck from Tesla may get pushed even well after the year 2019.
The pickup truck will be in competition with those offered by Ram, Chevrolet, Toyota, Ford and others and will be the first fully electric truck from a from a major automobile company. Tesla has also recently unveiled its semi tractor-trailer in California and, according to Musk, it will be able to travel for 500 miles on a single charge.
