Proton X50: An upcoming budget SUV

Proton X50: An upcoming budget SUV

The crossover SUV segment of the Pakistani auto market is growing rapidly. Many companies are looking to get their piece of cake by introducing new cars in this segment. Proton already has an SUV named X70 in this category starting at the price of 4,590,000. There are speculations about the company looking to launch its cheaper B-segment crossover SUV X50 in the Pakistani market.

X50 Exterior

When we look at the Malaysian variant of X50, it looks like a sister SUV of X70 with the almost same design but has a smaller size. Its body is much sharper overall giving it a sporty look. The infinite weave pattern grille is used in this car, which has become a signature of Proton. A tilted rear window along with the spoiler gives it a pretty sleek look.

X50 Interior

Lower variants of this car have dual-tone, whereas the upper variants come with a three-color interior. Contrasting colors give a stylish look. Multifunction steering and the floating display look aesthetically appealing. The position of the gearbox gives it an elegant look. The armrest is available.

How does it perform?

Engine performance is among the major focusing areas for many local consumers. Standard, Executive, and premium variants perform almost the same as their 1477 cc engine produces 150PS horsepower. The only difference is in X50’s Flagship variant that produces 177PS horsepower with a 1477cc engine. It can be due to the Direct Injection (DI) Fuel System as compared to the Multi-Point Injection (MPI) Fuel System of the other three variants. It has a 7-Speed Dual Clutch Transmission System with Manual Mode.

Proton X50 launch date in Pakistan

You will find many people claiming that it is going to be launched soon. But that might not be the case as Proton is focusing on fulfilling its demand in Malaysia first. We can only hope that the company may launch in 2022 or 2023.

Proton X50 fuel consumption

The fuel economy of Proton Malaysia x50 is about 15 Km/L. It is a pretty exceptional figure for many local consumers considering the body and type of this car.

Competitors in the local market

If this car is launched between the price of 3.4 Million to 4.4 Million, it is going to compete with many SUVs and other cars as well in the local market. Existing Crossover SUVs like KIA Stonic, Haval Jolion, Toyota Rush, Glory 580, and many more can get tough competition after its launch. Upcoming SUVs like Glory 500, Chery Tiggo 4, DFSK series 3 and others will also be in its competition.

Will it be successful in Pakistan?

There is a lot of room for budget SUVs in the Pakistani auto market. If this car is launched at a price range close to its Malaysian variants, it can become successful. It is because Pakistani consumers don’t have many options to get a new SUV at the price range of 3.4 million to 4.4 million.

Will you buy it if it is launched at the expected price? Share your opinion in the comment section below.

  1. This price is affordable in 3.5 Millon range and atleast better than grande and civic budget. I think this will be a tough competition with kia subs but will affect Grande and Civic turbo models.

  2. Yes I will if proton sells what it shows, unlike proton first version in Pakistan where a very beautiful car was shown in low price and than prices were enhanced and a standard compromised by launching a total plastic body car with pathetic feul consumption.
