Last night Apple brought out their much-awaited range of iPhone 12’s in the Apple Event. This line-up has been a long time coming as speculation about what it will and won’t include has been all the rage for many months now. From mockups of the look of it to discussion on whether or not Apple is changing their strategy in terms of pricing, there has been a lot of talk around the all-new iPhone line-up. Even though it has not come as a massive surprise to most of us, Apple has definitely taken a big leap into the future and is set to race ahead of the game, once again!
The full iPhone 12 line-up includes:
- iPhone Mini
Marketed as the world’s smallest, thinnest, lightest 5G phone with a 5.4-inch screen, ceramic shield, and the A14 Bionic chip. XDR OLED Display and turbo charging. Comes in 5 color variants including white, black, blue, green, and product red. Starting at $699.
- iPhone 12
6.1-inch OLED Display and ceramic shield. A14 Bionic chip with 5G compatibility. Turbo charging. Ceramic shield. Comes in 5 color variants including white, black, blue, green, and product red. Starting at $799.
- iPhone 12 Pro
5G Enabled with A14 bionic chip. Reduced bezels and ceramic shield stronger than any smartphone glass. 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display. Turbo charging. Surgical grade stainless steel. IP68 water resistance. LiDAR scanner and an improved camera system. Up to 5x optical zoom and night-mode that also works in wide and ultra-wide settings. Apple is set to ship 50 million 5G iPhones this year as compared to Samsung who shipped 6.7 million 5G phones since the launch of their 5G line up in May 2019. This will make Apple the largest 5G phone vendor by 2021 putting the “Apple Effect” in motion; ‘whatever Apple does becomes a success’ in the words of a tech analyst.
As expected, however, Apple has removed the EarPods and power adapter from the box claiming that this will help reduce their carbon footprint. People using iPhones prior to this will be able to continue using their old adaptors and EarPods or make the shift to the AirPods 1, 2, or Pro.
