A few months ago, we compared the iPhone 14 Pro Max with the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra in this space. Our conclusion was there is no clear winner in this competition and that it’s a stalemate like situation. However, with the news of possible launch of Samsung S23, especially Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra in February 2023 this stalemate could be broken.
iPhone 14 Pro Max is a great phone with super fast A16 Bionic processor, 48MP main camera and cool features like Dynamic Island. However, with February 2023 only two months away, a lot of (credible) leaks and rumors surrounding Galaxy S23 Ultra are doing the rounds on web and social media and we simply cannot ignore them.

Galaxy S23 Ultra Vs iPhone 14 Pro Max: Graphics & Gaming
So which of these two phones would perform better under long periods of heavy use? The following are the results from the 3DMark Wide Life Test:

As you can see, it’s essentially a competition between 84 frames per second versus 74 frames per second. So the upcoming Samsung would be 10 frames per second faster than the mighty iPhone. Though the gap isn’t very wide between the two when you look at the results of the 3DMark Wide Life Extreme Unlimited Test but S23 Ultra would still be ahead of the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Battery
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max offers 20W to 30W charging while the upcoming Samsung beast is rumored to offer 45W charging. Even Galaxy S22 Ultra offers faster battery charging speed than iPhone 14 Pro Max though the former’s battery life is shorter than the latter’s despite having a bigger battery (5,000 mAh vs 4,323 mAh).
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is expected to come with the same battery size as of S22 Ultra – 5,000 mAh. However, it is rumored that the phone would come with a light performance mode in which it would drain less battery and would keep the battery cool, hence extending its overall life.
Design
Design wise, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is expected to be similar to S22 Ultra with a 6.8-inch display screen. The upcoming Samsung flagship smartphone will be 6g heavier than the S22 Ultra, making it weigh around 235g, while bulky iPhone 14 Pro Max weighs 240g. So, Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra would be lighter than iPhone 14 Pro Max despite having a bigger display screen.
To protect its camera lenses from scratches, Samsung is expected to launch Galaxy S23 Ultra with raised bezels around the cameras.
Galaxy S23 Ultra Vs iPhone 14 Pro Max: Camera
The new 200MP main camera should be able to take good photographs in low light conditions, thanks to a larger aperture letting in more light. This will give a tough time to iPhone 14 Pro Max’s Night mode which is exceptional.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is expected to come with dual telephoto lenses of 3x and 10x magnification. However, if Samsung’s upcoming flagship phone is to beat iPhone 14 Pro Max’s camera it needs to work on its computational photography capabilities to help its customers take exceptional photographs. Resolution isn’t everything. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra has an 108MP main camera, while iPhone 14 Pro Max’s main camera has only 48MPs and yet it offers better photography features than S22.

The fastest Android phone is expected to be launched with a price tag of $1,200, which roughly converts to Rs.280,000 without taxes. iPhone 14 Pro Max was launched with a price tag of $1,100. We will do a detailed analysis of Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Vs iPhone 14 Pro Max, when it is launched and compare it with its other main competitor, Google Pixel 7.
