Toyota Pakistan to Sell Its First Locally-made HEVs in Summer of 2024

It’s a known fact that combustion engine vehicles will soon become a thing of the past. The future belongs to hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and electric vehicles (EVs). While the main driving force in western countries is environmental considerations, in developing countries like Pakistan it is the cost of the vehicle that still reigns supreme on the consumer’s mind.

Simply put, just because a car’s carbon footprint is zero doesn’t mean it will be readily accepted in Pakistan; it has to cost less too. For example, Tesla sales in Pakistan.

So good news for those trying to strike the balance between the environment and the cost – Toyota Pakistan will be locally manufacturing HEVs in the near future.

Toyota Pakistan has been offering CBU hybrid vehicles, including Toyota Prius, Toyota Camry, and Toyota Corolla Cross for a long time. But their sales have fluctuated due to the soaring prices of CBUs in Pakistan.

In the quarterly performance review session, the CEO of Toyota IMC, Ali Asghar Jamali has announced that the company aims to introduce Pakistan-made Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) before FY 24-25.

He added that the recent Automotive Industry Development and Export Policy (AIDEP) 2021-26 has allowed the company to invest $100 million in upgrading its production plant for the local manufacturing of HEVs.

From a consumer perspective, it’s heartening to see auto manufacturers like Toyota aiming to manufacture HEVs locally in the near future. It can also be the start of locally produced HEVs in Pakistan as other auto manufacturers may also join to keep up with the competition.

  1. It’s a great news to manufacture Electric vehicles locally by Toyota it is much needed but company need to keep it at low cost

  2. Principally the prices must be reduced not comprising on the built quality but due to the amount saved being a locally produced unit. Unfortunately companies shift the loss to costumers and tend to take full advantage to itself. Please pass on benefits to the end consumer as they are the ones ensuring your success and profits, thanks
