The Tesla Cybertruck: Unveiling Design, Specifications, Features, Pricing, and the Safety Debate

It’s big, fast, electric, and bulletproof—these adjectives aptly describe the much-anticipated Tesla truck. Unveiled in 2019 with a futuristic design, the Tesla Cybertruck is now in production after four years. Recently, Tesla has shared more details about the vehicle, keeping their promise of limited shipments in late 2023 and full-scale production starting in 2024. This blog provides up-to-date information on the giant’s design, specs, and features, along with insights into its pricing and the ongoing safety debate.

Design

Elon Musk had said from day one that the Cybertruck would feature a unique design, and he wasn’t exaggerating. The Tesla Cybertruck, as seen in images, has an angular design, making it challenging to manufacture. This is one of the primary reasons why the company hasn’t mass-produced them. The interior has a modern polygonal design with advanced technology, providing an enhanced driving experience.

Inside, the Cybertruck boasts a spacious, minimalist cabin with accent lighting and thoughtful design details. Its advanced technology offers a range of cutting-edge functionalities, enhancing the overall driving experience.

Some interior highlights include:

  • Seats up to 5 adults
  • Wireless charger
  • 65W USB-C ports
  • 9.4-inch rear touchscreen
  • 18.5-inch center touchscreen display
  • 15-speaker sound system with two subwoofers/distributed amplifiers
  • High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filtration system

Models, Specs & Features

If you are interested in buying the Tesla Cybertruck, you have three options to choose from:

  • Rear-wheel drive with a single motor
  • All-wheel drive with dual motors
  • All-wheel drive with tri-motors (Cyberbeast)

Despite different drivetrain setups, all Cybertruck models share identical exterior dimensions, featuring a bulletproof exterior and shatter-resistant glass. Each Cybertruck measures 95 inches in width, 223.7 inches in length, and 70.5 inches in height. Models with air suspension can slightly adjust the height measurement.

Cybertruck: Impressive Cargo and Towing Capacities

The Cybertruck features a 6 feet by 4 feet bed area, boasting a remarkable cargo capacity of approximately 1,133 kg—among the highest for electric pickups. To put it in perspective, it surpasses rivals like the Rivian R1T (approximately 798 kg) and the Ford F-150 Lightning (approximately 1,013 kg). Even the GMC Hummer EV falls short with a payload limit of approximately 590 kg.

Notably, the Cybertruck’s towing capacity is equally impressive. The dual-motor and tri-motor AWD versions can tow an impressive 4,989 kg, while the single-motor rear-drive versions are no slouch with a towing capacity of approximately 3,402 kg.

Driving Range

The 2024 Tesla Cybertruck offers a range between approximately 402 and 547 km on a full charge, depending on the drive type. Single-motor RWD models have a range of about 402 km, while the tri-motor Cyberbeast variant can go up to approximately 515 km.

Dual-motor AWD versions provide a range of about 547 km on a single charge. However, Tesla offers a $16,000 range extender option that can provide an additional approximately 209 km of range, boosting it from 547 km to 754 km. That said, it’s worth bearing in mind that choosing this range extender will require sacrificing one-third of the bed space.

  • Top speed: 209 km/h

Battery & Charging Time

Tesla disclosed that the 2024 Cybertruck all-wheel drive and Cyberbeast trims are equipped with a battery of around 122.4 kWh.

Charging Rate:

  • Maximum rate: 250 kW

Dual-motor AWD models:

  • Add 219 km in 15 minutes

Tri-motor Cyberbeast:

  • Adds 206 km in 15 minutes

Safety: Why Tesla Cybertruck May Not Sell in Europe?

Tesla’s major market outside of North America would be Europe. Despite this potential, the company has not confirmed the sale of Cybertrucks in Europe. The chief engineer mentioned to TopGear that EU safety rules, limiting external features to protect pedestrians, could pose challenges for sales in the region.

The European Transport Safety Council has already said “We hope Tesla don’t bring this vehicle to Europe. A vehicle of this size, power and huge weight will be lethal to pedestrians and cyclists in a collision,”

So, what is the issue here?

To make it bulletproof and enhance the safety of the Cybertruck, Tesla has employed thick stainless steel. However, this material has the potential to cause serious harm to pedestrians and cyclists if the vehicle collides with them on the roads. In many European countries, where roads are narrow and there is a significant cyclist population, this poses a particular concern.

Tesla Cybertruck Price in Pakistan

This big, fast, electric, and bulletproof truck isn’t going to come cheap. Here’s how much each Tesla Cybertruck would cost you:

  • Rear-wheel drive with a single motor – $60,990
  • All-wheel drive with dual motors – $79,990
  • All-wheel drive with tri-motors (Cyberbeast) – $99,990

Currently, the company has no plans to launch this truck in Pakistan. However, some EV enthusiasts would be able to import the truck into Pakistan, spending crores of Rupees on its retail price, import duties, taxes, etc.
