January 31, February 21 and February 28, 2023, and now March 10, 2023, this is how frequently Peugeot has increased the prices of its compact SUV, 2008. The latest price hike is due to 7% increase in the General Sales Tax (GST), which is applicable on all locally-assembled SUVs and CUVs along with all other 1,400cc automobiles.
Let’s see the new prices of both Peugeot 2008 variants.

Analysis
There are no brownie points for guessing why auto assemblers and manufacturers are increasing prices left, right, and center. It is because of the fluctuating Pak Rupee against the US Dollar, increasing electricity and gas tariffs, an increase in the prices of raw materials in the international markets, etc. It is also because of lack of localization. These companies (Toyota, Honda and Suzuki), despite being in Pakistan for decades, are still heavily dependent on the import of parts – CKD units. Had they localized in time, they would have largely safeguarded themselves against these external price shocks. Since they’ve failed to do it, they have resorted to passing on the burden to the consumer.
Their sales are already dismal; this will further drive them down to the ground.
