The car sales are down by around 51% this month (Sep-22: 11,046 units) compared to same month last year’s sales (Sep-21: 22,241 units). Also, the car sales are down by 6% (Sep-22: 11,046 units) compared to last month’s sales (Aug-22: 11,666 units).
The industry is going through one of the worst times. It is due to the current economic disaster in Pakistan in which inflation is breaking records. The companies are also facing issues in importing parts due to restrictions and unannounced delays. Due to this, some big companies are even forced to impose production cuts for some days. All these elements are affecting the sales negatively.

As we can see, the year-on-year sales of all automobile manufacturers (except Hyundai) have dropped significantly in Sep-22 as compared to Sep-21. Honda has lost the most sales (-64.8%) in this comparison.
Now, let’s see where the sedans and hatchbacks stand against each other.

Let’s see the winners of September 2022.
Winners in Terms of Number of Units Sold
Here, we will show you the winners in terms of total units sold.
Suzuki Alto is again on the top followed by the Toyota Corolla and Yaris. The sales of Corolla and Yaris have dropped significantly. The reason can be the production cuts due to shortage of raw materials.
Suzuki Swift has jumped to the 3rd position as it has gained 137% more sales this month. Swift’s year on year is almost 1350% up. The new model seems to be a success story for Suzuki.
Winners in Terms of % Difference in Units Sold
Now, let’s see which cars have gained more sales in % as compared to the previous month.
Winners (In terms of % difference in units sold)
The game is completely opposite for the Suzuki Alto if we consider the % difference. Now, Suzuki Bolan has got a massive increase in sales (168%) in terms of % difference. Next in the line is no other than the Suzuki Swift with 137.4% increase. This table is all about Suzuki cars due to their better performance in this month as compared to the previous one.
The Losers of Sep 2022
Let’s see the cars that have the least number of units sold or sales as compared to the previous month.
Losers in Terms of Number of Units Sold
Here are the cars that have the least number of units sold in Sep 2022.
As per the table, Honda BR-V is the least performer of this month followed by Hyundai Sonata, Elantra, and Tucson.
Losers in Terms of % Difference in Units Sold
Let’s see the cars that have lost their sales massively as compared to the previous month.
Honda BR-V is still the loser if we compare the percentage difference in units sold this month as compared to last month. Shockingly, sedans of Toyota (with -38.6% sales) and Honda (with -16.4% sales) are also in this list.
Final Verdict
The cars’ sales of most automobile manufacturers continue to decline. The sales figures are quite alarming if we compare them with the previous year. Even Suzuki’s sales that have elevated this month, declined significantly as compared to the same month last year.
Many people have started to buy used cars due to frequent price hikes by the companies this year. As inflation is high and the buying power of common people is not allowing them to buy a new car, the automobile industry can face this type of decline in car sales in the coming months.
What are your thoughts on the decline in car sales? Will it force the companies to prolong production cuts? Will it end the own-money culture in Pakistan? Share your opinion with us in the comment section below.
