History

The growing popularity of SUVs has resulted in the launch of several new vehicles and the improvisation of existing models by various automobile manufacturers. Hyundai Tucson is the third generation SUV launched by Hyundai. For the distribution, production and marketing of Hyundai’s product line in Pakistan, Hyundai Motor Company (Korea) has collaborated with Hyundai Nishat. There are two basic variants of the car available in Pakistan, The Tucson GLS Sport FWD and the Tucson Grade Ultimate AWD. In the Pakistani market Hyundai Tucson‘s main competitors are Kia Sportage, DFSK Glory 580 Pro, MG HS and the Proton X70.

Exterior

The Tucson GLS Sport FWD and the Tucson Grade Ultimate AWD, both have a similar design. Tucson has Hyundai’s signature hexagonal front in a chrome and gloss black finish,  adding to its contemporary exterior. The SUV has Auto Leveling Bi-LED headlamps. At the sides, you’ll find a new design for the 18-inch alloy wheels and over at the rear. There’s been a slight reprofiling of the bumper with the reflector strips moved higher up and a new set of part-LED tail-lamps. Both variants of the car come in 8 elemental colours: Winter White, Black Diamond Metallic, Silver Metallic, Graphite Grey Metallic, Ocean Blue Pearl, Royal Red Metallic, Earthy Bronze and Aqua Silver.

The dashboard is wrapped in double-stitched faux leather and the Floating Infotainment System is 10.1 inches in size. Additional features include a Driver’s 10 way Power Seat and a wireless charging system. A higher-end feature is a Chromatic Mirror which reduces glare and improves visibility.

There is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features include auto headlamps and wipers, keyless entry, dual-zone auto climate control, driving modes, a powered tailgate with hands-free opening and a new eight-speaker sound system from Infinity. Space

Interior space continues to be one of Tucson’s USPs. It’s not 7-seater but there is enough room for five. The rear seat of the SUV is wide enough for three to sit comfortably with excellent leg room. Ride Quality

There are two drive modes – Eco and Sport in the SUV. The drive mode select feature gives the driver the option to choose between Eco mode for higher fuel efficiency and Sports mode for an enthralling experience by just the press of a button. It has an 8-speed auto transmission which is smooth and responsive.

Power steering is accommodated with 18-inch alloy wheels. The Tucson remains a capable and comfy family cruiser that’s great for long highway drives and also absorbs road bumps seamlessly at low speeds. The shorter drivers can motor themselves up to a good driving position with the 10-way adjustable driver’s seat. The outside rear-view mirrors are quite small and don’t give a wide enough field of view for such a big car.

Safety Features

Among the safety features of the Hyundai Tucson is its strong structure with 51% of high strength steel. Tucson FWD A/T GLS Sport and the Tucson AWD A/T, both have Downhill Brake Control (DBC), Hill Start Assist Control (HAC) and Airbags for the driver and passengers.
