This Swiss watchmaker is credited with making the first scratch-resistant wristwatch ever. Maker of the “hardest watches” in the world and recipient of well over 30 design awards for innovation, Rado is perhaps the most known Swiss watchmaker of all time. Interestingly, Rado didn’t start out as “Rado”. Established in 1917 by Guggenheim brothers as Schlup 8: Co. to produce watch movements only, the company got its present name in 1957 as it started to produce completed watches.
Among its many firsts, there are two more. In 1976, the company combined ceramic and metal in its model Rado Integral. In 1986, Rado went one step further and made a watch completely of ceramic, aptly called Rado Ceramica.
Ingenuity has led Rado to introduce many models over a period of time. This has sometimes become daunting for some as it can complicate the buying process. As all Rado watches are exceptional in their own right, which wristwatch would suit you is largely a subjective matter. However, in this blog, we’d highlight some of the distinctive features of Rado models, so it could become easier for you to decide.
Rado Watch Types in Pakistan
Specialists in making wristwatches, Rado offers a variety of classic, dress and sport watches. Catering to different tastes and preferences, these Rado watches differ in designs and features. Let’s explore a bit more of these three types of Rado watches.
Classic
Based on minimalist design, these timeless watches exude elegance and luxury. Often made with stainless steel and leather, Classic watches are known for their clean dials and simple indices. Rado’s Classic collection is powered by automatic or quartz movements.
Some of the most popular Classic models in Pakistan are DiaMaster and others. The DiaMaster is available in a variety of sizes and is usually made of high-quality stainless steel, ceramic and leather. Keeping in line with its minimalist design philosophy, Rado Classic watches are quickly identified for their simple and round case and clean, uncluttered dial.
Dress
While all Rado watches are impressive, there are some which are more impressive than others. As the name suggests, the Rado Dress collection is for formal occasions. Though still sticking to its minimalist design, Rado Dress wristwatches have slim cases with delicate indices and hands. In addition to being made from stainless steel, these watches are made of gold and diamonds. Though, they are also available in ceramic.
The Centrix, perhaps, is one of the most known Rado Dress watches. The Centrix is readily identified for its slim, rectangular case and a minimalist dial with diamond indices.
Sport & Diver
If you lead an active lifestyle then consider looking at Rado’s Sport & Diver collection. Made of tough materials like ceramic and titanium, the Rado Sport & Diver collection is water-resistant. Their design is also different from the rest as they have bold designs with large dials and are offered in bright colors.
HyperChrome is one of the best known Rado Sport & Diver watches. HyperChrome is available in a variety of materials such as ceramic, stainless steel and titanium and is recognizable due to its large, round case and a sporty, chronograph-style dial.
Rado Watch Prices in Pakistan
Not all, but some of these Rado watches are available on OLX Pakistan in both new and used conditions. So, do check them out. Their current prices range between Rs.20,000 and Rs.100,000+. These prices are likely to vary due to a fluctuating forex as all Rado watches are imported.
What Makes Rado Watches Special?
Rado has always been in the forefront of material and design innovation. Before Rado, no watchmaker had thought of using ceramic in making a wristwatch. Even with ceramic, Rado has touched new heights of ingenuity with the development of plasma high-tech ceramic. Ceramic is known for being tough, while being lightweight and hypoallergenic. Due to Rado’s use of ceramic, its watches have come to be known for their comfort, lightweightness and durability.
Speaking of design innovation, Rado’s designers draw inspiration from nature, architecture and art. This helps them design and come up with collections which are visually appealing as well as highly practical. Rado watches, over the years, have come to be associated with unusual shapes and asymmetrical designs.
As mentioned earlier, Rado started out as a producer of watch movements only. Today, it is known for accuracy and reliability, as all Swiss watches are. All Rado watches are subjected to rigorous testing and quality control measures to ensure that each timepiece meets company’s standards.
To conclude, Rado watches often make family heirlooms. Passed on from one generation to another, Rado watches are beautiful, and known for their excellent craftsmanship. They are also the hardest watches and the first to have been made of ceramic, gold and diamond.
