New Rules for Vehicle Registration Introduced by Excise Department in Islamabad

The Islamabad administration has introduced significant changes regarding vehicle registration and the use of non-standard number plates. Under the new rules, the traffic police will now have the authority to cancel the registration of vehicles that are found to have fancy number plates.

A spokesperson for the Excise and Taxation (E&T) department announced that new regulations have been implemented for vehicle registration and non-standard number plates. According to the E&T department, the registration of vehicles with non-standard number plates will be cancelled. To drive the vehicle legally again, the owner will be required to pay a substantial re-registration fee.

The re-registration fee will vary based on the engine capacity (cc) of the vehicle. For vehicles with engines up to 1000 cc, the re-registration fee is set at Rs.5,000 For engines between 1001 cc and 2000 cc, the fee will be Rs.10,000 Vehicles with engines above 2000 cc will face a re-registration fee of Rs.20,000.

Motorcycles will also be subject to re-registration if found in violation of the regulations, such as having fancy number plates. The re-registration fee for motorcycles is Rs.1,000.

If the violation is repeated, the E&T department has introduced a policy where the fine will be five times the original amount.

These new measures are intended to standardize vehicle registration. Vehicle owners are urged to update their registration and apply for standard number plates to avoid heavy fines.
