Toyota Yaris Aero Kit: The Ultimate Upgrade or a Waste of Money?

Toyota Yaris Aero Kit: The Ultimate Upgrade or a Waste of Money?

Toyota Indus has upgraded its Yaris with a new kit, which gives the model a completely new appearance. It is important to note that this upgrade is only available in 2 out of the 6 variants of the compact sedan and is not free. In this blog, we will cover what this upgrade entails, the variants in which it is available, possible reasons for its launch at this time, and, most importantly, its price.

What Is the Aero Kit?

The kit is about giving Yaris’s exterior a new look. It includes:

  • Front and rear bumper extensions
  • A trunk spoiler
  • Body-colored trim around the fog lamps
  • Side skirts
  • A lowered stance

The kit has nothing to offer for Yaris’s interior. Though it would give it a sporty look with a lowered stance and other cosmetic features.

Which Variants Will Come with the Aero Kit?

For now, only two variants will be available with the kit. They are:

  • Toyota Yaris 1.3L ATIV CVT
  • Toyota Yaris 1.5L ATIV X CVT

The new kit comes with a price tag of Rs.200,000. To put things in perspective, here are the prices of “old” and “new” “Aero variants” of Toyota Yaris:

Toyota Yaris 1.5L ATIV X CVT5,769,0005,969,000

The bookings are open for Toyota Yaris Aero.

Why Is Toyota Indus Offering This Kit Now?

When the compact sedan was launched in 2020, it became an instant success. Competitively priced and facing less competition, Toyota Yaris showed promising sales. Though all of this started to change in 2022 as its sales started to dwindle due to two prong competition – New Honda City (6th gen) and new Suzuki Swift (3rd gen).

Yaris’ specific sales figures are not available from the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) as both Toyota Yaris and Corolla sales numbers are clubbed. Be that as it may, let’s look at the sales statistics of Yaris-Corolla of March 2022 and March 2023.

March 2022March 2023
Corolla & Yaris5,3951,119

As you can see, there is a sales decline of almost 80% in one year. This is perhaps why now Toyota Indus has “upgraded” its once hottest sedan to revive its sales numbers.

Should You Consider Buying Toyota Yaris Aero?

Now that you know the “new” Yaris’s price, you would know whether it’s worth your hard earned money. If you like the performance and inner cabin features of this compact sedan but would prefer a sportier exterior, you should consider Yaris Aero. However, if you want a whole new look then consider buying its competitors like City and Swift. For your convenience, we have listed the prices of the two below:

  • Suzuki Swift GL CVT – Rs.4,355,000
  • Suzuki Swift GLX CVT Rs.4,725,000
  • Honda City 1.5LS CVT – Rs.5,549,000
  • Honda City Aspire 1.5LAS CVT – Rs.5,979,000
  • Honda City 1.2LS CVT – Rs.4,929,000

Toyota Yaris Aero’s top variant is almost equally priced with the top variant of Honda City, though Swift’s top variant is still Rs.1.2 million cheaper than Aero’s top variant. So, if Toyota Indus has introduced this kit to beat the competition, it would still face stiff competition from Suzuki Swift.

Let us know what you make of the “new” Toyota Yaris. Is it worth paying Rs.200,000 extra?
