EVs are the future of the auto industry. The world is shifting from combustion engines to greener substitutes like EVs and Hybrids. Pakistan is also making slow progress in the EV sector. The Government of Pakistan has made commendable efforts to facilitate the import of Hybrids and EVs by reducing taxes and duties on importing EV cars in Pakistan.

For all of these reasons, the EV trend in Pakistan is rising. If you are interested in reading about the top EVs in Pakistan today, here are the top 5.
MG ZS EV
MG ZS EV is identical to MG ZS in design and dimensions. MG ZS EV packs the punch with its excellent performance. This electric car can do 0-100 km/h in 8.2 seconds. Powered by a 44.5kWh battery, ZS EV can do 320km on a single charge.
Its three-pin home charger can take around 14 hours for a full recharge. However, using a 7kWH charger can reduce the time by half. If you have access to fast chargers, it can charge 20% to 80% in under an hour.
Despite sharing the same platform as the MG ZS, this EV has many premium features like a panoramic sunroof, MG pilot, TPMS, rotary gear shift dial, 6-airbags, etc.
Being an EV, it offers instant acceleration and impressive torque figures. To ensure road safety, MG has introduced a pre-qualifying screening process. The pre-qualifying metrics make sure the person behind the wheels is responsible enough to drive this car. This electric car in Pakistan has an ex-factory price of Rs.6,250,000, making it the most affordable brand new EV in Pakistan.
MG offers a 150,000 km or five-year warranty for the MG ZS EV.
Nissan Leaf
Nissan Leaf is Europe’s best-selling EV for 2018. Nissan Leaf owes its success to its affordability, decent range, and reliability. The base model of Nissan can do 270 km with its 40kWh battery, while the top-of-the-range model can do 384 km with 62 kWh on a single charge.
The car shares its design with the Nissan NOTE e-Power, but it’s more refined. The Leaf’s interior feels modern; it has loads of storage spaces in the cabin. The seats are pretty comfortable; however, the same can’t be said about the suspension of this car. Low ground clearance and wobbly suspension keeps the driver away from enjoying a smooth drive.
The performance of the Nissan Leaf is exceptional. The vehicle is very responsive with lighter steering. It can do 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds for the standard variant. Leaf e+ can do it a second quicker than the base model.
Charging with the three-pin home charger may take up to 13 hours for the base model to fully charge. Leaf e+ with its bigger battery, takes around 20 hours. A 7.5kW home charger can shorten this time to approximately 6.5 hours. If you have a fast-charging facility in your city, you can charge 20% to 80% in almost 60 minutes.
Most Nissan Leaf are JDM imports that cost around 5-6 Million rupees. For that price, buying a brand new MG ZS EV makes more sense.
Audi e-Tron
Audi e-Tron is a premium electric SUV, which can also be called one of the first EVs in Pakistan. This beast comes in 50 Quattro and 55 Quattro variants. Quattro means four in Italian; here, it means e-Tron is an all-time four-wheel drive EV. 50 Quattro is a low spec model with a 71kWH battery generating 230kWh and 540 Nm of torque. Audi e-Tron 50 Quattro does 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. It is the most popular variant of e-Tron in Pakistan, with an approximate range of 300 km.
The 55 Quattro variant produces 664 Nm of torque and 300kW power. It can do 0 to 100 in 5.7 seconds. The car is also packed with features and technology. Like other premium cars, it has ambient lighting, huge-sized rims, soft air suspension, and many other premium features.
A fast charger can charge the Audi e-Tron from 20% to 80% in around an hour. If you use a standard home adapter, leaving your car to charge overnight should be more than enough.
E-Tron is a solid combination of comfort, looks, spacious cabin, and value for money electric car. These features are why the e-Tron is seen more often than other EVs in Pakistan. This EV costs around Rs.1.4 crore in Pakistan.
Porsche Taycan 4s
Porshe Taycan is an exotic sports EV that’s a marvel of engineering and technology. Taycan is the first EV sports car by Porsche. However, cabin leg and head space are a concern for many Taycan owners.
This EV packs a 79.2kWh battery for the standard model and a 93.4kWh battery for battery plus trim. This, combined with the efficiency of Taycan 4s RWD, makes it sprint 0 to 100km/h in about 3.5 seconds for the plus variant and 4 seconds for the standard variant. This electric beast produces 390kW of power and 640 Nm of torque, powering the car’s rear wheels.
The futuristic design of the Porsche Taycan is a head-turner for many. The interior of the Porsche Taycan matches the details and elegance of the exterior. The cockpit feels premium with stitched leather and multiple displays for system navigation and performance stats.
Porsche Taycan 4s can charge from zero to full in an hour with a fast charger. A home charger can also fill up the battery in about 10 hours. Once fully charged, Taycan 4s can do 250 to 360 km depending upon the battery trim. The price of this electric car in Pakistan is around 3.5 to 4 crore rupees.
Audi e-Tron GT
Audi e-Tron GT is a 4-wheel drive electric coupe weighing a massive 2.3 tonnes. However, it isn’t hard to handle, thanks to the extreme aerodynamics of this car, road grip, and responsiveness of the vehicle.
The E-Tron GT is powered by a 93kWh battery, producing 475kWh or 390kWh. This EV can do 0 to 100 in just 3.0 seconds and 4.1 seconds, respectively. E-Tron can charge from zero to 80% in under an hour. Using an 11kWh home charger can increase the time to about 7 hours.
Being a Coupe, the inner room is compromised just like in Taycan 4s. That’s expected since it’s a performance electric vehicle. Audi e-Tron GT costs around 3 crore rupee.
What About Electric Charging Infrastructure in Pakistan?
As compared to regular combustion engine vehicles, EVs are almost non-existent. This is primarily because EVs have high initial costs. Also, the lack of electrical infrastructure in the country discourages many from buying EVs. The good news is that the government is installing 85 superfast EV chargers on the motorways to make intercity commuting possible.
The government has already installed EV charging stations at Bhera and Pindi Bhattian service stations on Islamabad to Lahore Motorway. Hopefully, we will see more in the coming months and years.
