The Step-by-Step Guide to Applying for a Learner Driving License in Punjab

If you want to drive a car or motorcycle in Lahore or Punjab, you should be at least 18 years of age. The legal age limit for driving a rickshaw, taxi, tractor and commercial vehicle is 21 years. However, even then, you won’t be issued a regular driving license as you would first need to obtain a learner driving license. This license will legally allow you to sit behind the wheel, along with a person (instructor) who possesses a regular driving license.

So, how can you apply for a learner driving license in Punjab? To obtain a learner license, you will need to submit the following documents:

1. Original and valid CNIC + 1 photocopy
2. Medical certificate (for applicants who are 50 years old or older)
3. Rs.60 ticket which can be obtained from any post office

If you are in possession of these documents, you can head over to the nearest Police Khidmat Markaz. 

How To Apply for a Learner Driving License in Punjab: Step-by-Step Guide 

You do not need to make an appointment to obtain a learner driving license. Once you arrive at a Police Khidmat Markaz of your choice:

1. Get a token and wait for your turn
2. An officer will review your documents. If found satisfactory, he/she will enter the data in the Driving License Information Management System (DLIMS)
3. Biometric verification of your fingers will be performed
4. A photo will be taken

You will be handed over your learner driving license on the spot. It will be valid for 6 months. It can be renewed. You will also be given a Code Book of Traffic Rules & Regulation. This will help you prepare and pass the regular driving license exam. You can apply for the regular driver license after 42 days.
