Official State Cars of the 9 Most Powerful Nations

When one thinks of the US, it immediately brings to mind its military, arguably the most powerful in human history. Similarly, China is renowned for its technological and industrial might, while the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is recognized for its vast oil reserves. These attributes serve as representatives of a country on the global stage. However, what is not always widely known are the official vehicles, or cars, driven by their leaders. These cars also symbolize a nation’s strength and standing in the international community. In this blog, we will share information about the 9 official state cars of world leaders.  

United States

The President of the United States travels in a Cadillac limousine, also known as Limo One, Cadillac One, and “the Beast.” The Beast is an apt description of this vehicle, as it is 18 feet long and built like a tank. Equipped with hidden weapons, details of which are not known to the public, the car is said to enable the president to authorize the use of nuclear weapons while inside. This highlights Limo One’s advanced communication system. To ensure the president’s safety, there is more than one Limo One in the presidential motorcade, all bearing the same number plates. It is estimated that each car costs around $1.5 million, with $15 million allocated solely for its research and development.  


This is the official vehicle of the Chinese President. The Hongqi L5 is a large luxury car produced by Hongqi, designed with inspiration from the discontinued Hongqi CA770. Serving as Hongqi’s flagship vehicle in the Chinese market, it was introduced in 2013 at the Shanghai Auto Show. The L5 holds the record as the most expensive Chinese-made car, priced at CN¥5 million (US$800,000). As the official state car of China, it is utilized by President Xi Jinping and is exclusively available in China.


The Aurus Senat serves as the official presidential state car of Russia. It is a luxury full-size car developed by Russian automaker Aurus Motors in Moscow, Russia, with assistance from NAMI.  Porsche and Bosch Engineering were reportedly involved in the engine development.The armored limousine version features a 4.4-liter V8 engine, with a more powerful 6.6-liter V12 engine planned for later release. Development began in 2013, and production commenced in 2021 at the Sollers JSC factory in Yelabuga. The Initial expected retail price in 2018 was 10 million rubles ($160k), which later rose to over 20 million rubles (~$300k) in 2021.


German presidents and chancellors have traditionally used Mercedes-Benz S-Class vehicles as their official automobiles. The current president uses an armored Mercedes-Benz S600. The Mercedes-Benz S600 is a flagship luxury sedan within the S-Class series, known for its emphasis on opulence and performance. The vehicle is powered by a robust 6.0-liter V12 engine, reflecting a commitment to providing a balance between refined power and a comfortable driving experience. Internally, the S600 is characterized by a lavish interior, incorporating high-quality materials and advanced technological features. The sedan prioritizes safety through the integration of cutting-edge safety technologies. 

United Kingdom

The British monarch’s motorcade includes Bentleys and Rolls-Royces. Convertible Range Rovers are utilized for activities like inspecting military parades. Interestingly, these vehicles lack number plates, as British laws do not apply to the monarch. Currently, the monarch is using the Rolls-Royce Phantom VI.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom VI is a luxury automobile produced from 1968 to 1991. It is a stately limousine celebrated for its meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail. Powered by a V8 engine, the vehicle offers a combination of power and smooth performance. Its spacious interior, characterized by lavish appointments, contributes to its reputation for providing unparalleled comfort. 

South Korea

The president of South Korea uses two vehicles as official vehicles – a Mercedes-Maybach W222 S600 Guard and a Hyundai Nexo SUV. We will focus on the latter, as more information is available about the former.

The Hyundai Nexo is an advanced hydrogen fuel cell SUV that exemplifies Hyundai’s commitment to environmentally friendly transportation. Introduced in 2018, the Nexo features a cutting-edge fuel cell system, emitting only water vapor as a byproduct, making it a zero-emission vehicle. Its fuel cell technology provides a driving range of approximately 380 miles, making it a viable option for those seeking an eco-conscious SUV with an extended range. The Nexo also incorporates innovative driver assistance features and a sleek, modern design. 


The French president has the option to select from various armored versions of premium French cars, such as the Citroën DS5 Hybrid4, Citroën C6, Renault Vel Satis, and Peugeot 607. The current French president also uses the DS 7 Crossback Élysée.

The DS 7 Crossback Élysée is a premium SUV that reflects French automotive luxury. This model is equipped with advanced security features and armored protection, ensuring the safety of its occupants. Its design combines elegance with modern aesthetics, offering a spacious and comfortable interior. The DS 7 Crossback Élysée serves as a symbol of sophistication and technological prowess, embodying the fusion of style and security required for official state transportation.


Do you know that the Royals of Japan use Toyota as their official vehicle? The Emperor and Empress of Japan use specially customized G51 Toyota Century Royal limousines as their official state cars. These luxury vehicles are valued at around $500,000 each.

These custom-built limousines measure 20 feet in length and 6.5 feet in width. These luxury vehicles, accommodating up to 8 occupants, come equipped with additional features, including bulletproofing and a granite entryway.

Saudi Arabia

The monarch of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia uses the Mercedes S-600 and an S600 Pullman as his official vehicles. These cars meet certain safety standards, including features like bulletproof windows, bulletproof tires, and a high roof for enhanced security.

It can be said that, more than anyone else, the South Korean president is striving hard to work towards a carbon-free world. Following closely is the French president, who stood out when he used an SUV for the first time as part of an inauguration ceremony.

These nine countries are considered the most powerful nations in the world in terms of their national wealth and, therefore, must take the lead in reducing carbon footprint, starting with their presidents.
