How to Remove Scratches From Your Bike Using Toothpaste, Nail Polish, Candle Wax and Other Household Products

  3. Apply nail polish evenly on scuffed area
  4. Apply multiple coats if required

How to Remove Bike Scratches Using Toothpaste

Is there a minor scratch on your bike’s painted surface? Your toothpaste may be able to help. 

  1. Clean the affected area
  2. Apply toothpaste on clean paper towel 
  3. Buff the affected area
  4. Use another paper towel to wipe off the residue
  5. Repeat the process if the scuff is still there 

How to Remove Bike Scratches Using Shoe Polish + Sandpaper

If you need to use this method then the trick is in finding a shoe polish which is darker than your bike’s paint color. Follow the instructions below:

  1. Clean the affected area thoroughly
  2. Wipe the area with a damp cloth
  3. Dry it with another clean cloth
  4. Apply the shoe polish on the scratched surface to fill in the scuff. This will properly expose the scuff
  5. Use the sandpaper to rub the areas around the scuff to even them out
  6. Only sand down the area affected or you’ll cause more damage to the surrounding painted area
  7. Sanding will level the surrounding surfaces to make the scratch invisible
  8. Rub the surfaces to make the polish disappear
  9. Buff the area with a clean cloth

How to Remove Scratches from Your Bike Silencer?

A scratched silencer can lead to the development of rust and corrosion, therefore it needs to be tended to immediately. There are two schools of thought on this topic. First believes that a silencer scratch or scratches can’t be fixed with common household items like toothpaste and therefore this job should be left for the professionals. Second school, however, believes that it can be fixed at home while following these steps:

  1. Before attempting to remove scratches, make sure the silencer is clean. Use a degreaser and a clean cloth for this purpose. 
  2. Use sandpaper to gently sand the scratched area. Start with a coarse-grit sandpaper and gradually work your way up to a finer-grit sandpaper. Sand in a circular motion to avoid creating deep scratches.
  3. Apply a metal polish to the scratched area using a clean cloth. Rub the polish in a circular motion until the scratch has been removed. Repeat if required. 
  4. Once the scratch has been removed, use a clean cloth to buff the silencer. This will remove any excess metal polish and give the silencer a shiny finish.

These were some of the DIY ways to remove minor scratches from your bike. They are also cheap and will help you save money. However, if your bike has sustained a deep scratch, you may need to hire the services of a professional.
