Analysis

Suzuki Cultus has regained its sales (1,745) that were dropped in March 2022 to 306 units (due to interrupted supply). It is the reason why its sales are 470% up. However, the top selling car is still Suzuki Alto with 5009 units sold. This is despite the fact that its MOM sales have dropped.

The sales of popular sedans of Toyota (Yaris and Corolla) and Honda (Civic and City) also declined last month. However, the sales of Toyota Yaris and Corolla (4,117 combined) are still higher than the Honda Civic and City (2,265 combined). Toyota sales for these two sedans have dropped 24%, whereas Honda sales have dropped more – 31%.

The reason behind this could be the launch of new Civic 2022 which has a higher price tag (Rs.5.55M – Rs.6.65M).

Final Verdict

It seems that consumers are responding to the multiple price hikes this year by the automobile companies. Suzuki Cultus is the only gainer if we see MOM sales comparison. The sales of all other cars have declined since last month.

The only good news for the automobile companies is the YOY gains. This comparison might also be affected negatively in future if there is a 4th wave of car price hike in coming months.

Do you think that the consumers are now rationally responding to the car price hikes by the automobile companies? Or are they still not responding with enough intensity? Tell us in the comment section below.
