The Right Time to Buy Animals for Sacrifice (Qurbani Ke Janwar ka Business)?

We are not talking about starting a farm or something similar. You can do this business without leaving your full time job.

You can start it with a mere amount of Rs.1 lakh (Rs.100,000) or you can bring more capital in it as per your desire.

Trading means you are going to buy animals such as goats, sheep, cows, bulls, or even camels from the villages or cities where they are cheap. Then you can sell them in the big cities at a higher price where their demand is high.

Would you like to know more? Let’s get into it.

1) Ample Supply

One of the major reasons why it is the right time to start this business is that sacrificial animals are in ample supply right now. The animals in farms are grown up and ready to be taken to local markets. Some traders have already started buying these animals at lower rates. With the Eid still a month away you can visit remote areas in Sindh, Punjab, KPK, Balochistan, and GB to buy animals.

Many livestock and animals are also available on OLX. You might get a great deal buying them here. But remember that the profit margin might be lower as compared to getting them from remote areas.

If you buy them late, you’ll have to pay more.

2) Rising Demand

With the Eid ul Adha nearing, demand for sacrificial animals is rising. Most people buy these animals in the last week before Eid. However, you will face a noticeable difference in demand from 15 days before Eid. So, purchasing the animals now might get you more money when their demand is high.

3) Increasing Transportation Cost

A clever trader considers all the factors before making a decision. Another important reason why you should buy sacrificial animals right now is the rising transportation charges. Fuel prices are increasing, which means that it will cost you more to transport your animals. If you wait longer, fuel costs will go up further.

As you are going to buy the animals from remote areas to sell them in big cities, transportation costs will decide how much profit you make. Buying the animals right now will help you stay ahead of the competition and sell them with a higher profit margin later on.

4) Traditional Vs. Online Shopping

Nowadays, some prefer buying their animals online. This trend is fast catching up amongst urban dwellers. If you would like to sell your animals online, you do not need to set up a website, you don’t even need a Facebook page. All you need is to list your ad on OLX Pakistan

Tips to Buy Sacrificial Animals

Now that you know why it is the right time to start a sacrificial animal trading business, we will show you some tips to buy them.

i) Determine Your Budget

That you need to know your budget goes without saying. Also remember, this is business. So, while there is a high chance that you can make money out of it, you can lose money as well. So invest accordingly.

In small cities, prices of small goats and sheep (sacrificial) can vary from Rs.18,000 to Rs.25,000. The price of these goats and sheep in the big cities is around Rs.30,000 to Rs.40,000 on average. Medium ones can be purchased at an average price of Rs.26,000 to Rs.35,000. They are sold at an average price of Rs.40,000 to Rs.65,000. There is no price limit for large sheep and goats.

You can buy 3 or 4 sheep / goats or go for a bulk purchase of more than 20 animals. It totally depends upon your budget and which category of animals you want to buy. Price of bulls, cows, and camels vary in different cities.

You might be able to buy a bull (small) at around Rs.70,000 to Rs.90,000. Its price in the big cities is around Rs.110,000 to Rs.130,000. Medium cows / bulls can cost you around Rs.120,000 to Rs.150,000. Their price in the market is around Rs.180,000 to Rs.230,000. No limit for the large bulls here as the sellers demand special prices and they are sold at very high prices in the market as well.

With a smaller budget, trading sheep and goats is a better idea. Bulls, cows, and camels are suitable for those who are willing to invest more.

Keep in mind that you will have to bear the cost of food and land till they are sold. So, remember this when budgeting.

ii) Choose the Right Animal Specie

Always buy what people are willing to buy. Choose the right animal species for trading. This decision depends upon your budget. Smaller sacrificial animal species contain sheeps and goats. Bigger sacrificial animal species are bulls, cows, and camels. It also depends upon your personal preference which species you want to choose for trading.

You have to remember that it is not always the weight of the animal that determines its price. People will pay you more for a 50 kg Gulabi Goat or Gulabi Bakra as compared to a 50 kg Pahari goat. Do proper research about which nasal is more popular in the city where you want to sell them.

It is also important to note that the animals are categorized into three categories.”Donda” (with 2 large front teeth), “Choga” (with 4 large front teeth), and “Chagga” (with 6 large front teeth). “Donda” animals are the most popular among all.

iii) Source Smartly

Smart sourcing is the only way to earn good profit. You will have to get a specific animal race or nasal from where it is commonly found. Like Gulabi Bakra is mostly found in interior Sindh. So, you are more likely to get it at a lower rate from there. If you get it in Punjab, you might get it at a higher price. Same is the case with Pahari Bakra which is much cheaper in northern areas of Pakistan.

Also, when buying, always buy a healthy animal or it won’t sell. A sacrificial animal must not be injured. Check every animal thoroughly before purchasing. Also, keep in mind the transportation cost and total cost. Compare them for different areas. Choose the option that has lower total cost (animal price + transportation cost).

ii) Sell in Bulk

Bulk selling is another good option. You can list the details and combined price of all the animals in your ad on OLX. Many traders are actively looking to buy animals in bulk. The profit margin might be lower in this case but you can earn a good amount of money at once rather than waiting to sell your animals one by one.

iii) Start a Shared Qurbani Service Online

Many of us are aware that large animals like camels, cows, and bulls can be shared for qurbani. You can offer a service of shared qurbani on OLX Pakistan.

All you need to know is the animals’ prices in your area and their prices in remote areas (from where you will buy them). Knowing the difference between the prices of local markets and remote areas will help you determine the price per “hissa” to be charged.
