If you are planning to travel to and from Pakistan anytime soon, you should read this blog. Now, you may have to declare currency you are carrying with you from or to Pakistan. However, not every amount is supposed to be declared at the airport. How much you can carry with you when going abroad will depend upon where you are traveling to.

So, let’s first talk about currency declaration when leaving Pakistan.

Who Can Carry Foreign Currency?
Travelers of age up to five years going anywhere except Afghanistan can carry up to $1,000. Travelers of ages 5 to 18 years can carry up to $5,000 and those aged over 18, can carry up to $10,000.
Once again, anyone carrying more than $5,000 will have to submit a declaration form.

This information was for those passengers who are traveling from Pakistan. But what about those who are traveling to Pakistan?
To Pakistan
If you are traveling to Pakistan with currency up to $10,000, you will have to declare it. In addition, if you are carrying jewelry with you and other valuable items, you will have to declare them as soon as you land in Pakistan.
Penalty
What happens if you fail to declare? If you fail to make a declaration or you are carrying more than the allowed limit, law will take its course. In the worst case scenario, the additional amount, jewelry and other valuables can be confiscated from you and you can be criminally prosecuted.
The government is trying to curtail the outflow of US Dollars from Pakistan. The main concern is Afghanistan where the large sums are being moved, and therefore the new rules are stricter for travelers going to Afghanistan. However, the new rules will not be welcomed by some traveling to Pakistan especially from the Middle Eastern and European countries for attending familial functions like weddings, etc.
