The much awaited flagship smartphone of the Android world has finally arrived. As expected, Samsung has launched it in three models – Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra. In this blog, we’ll cover the first two in terms of their specs, features, design and most importantly, price. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is covered in a separate blog and you’ll find its link in this blog.
So, let’s see what this Korean smartphone giant has to offer us in the year 2023.
Design & Display
The design of the latest three offerings from Samsung – Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra is similar. Which means that Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus look different from Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus. Though, you may find similarities between their looks when compared with Galaxy S22 Ultra. This is from the back.
However, if you look at the new entrants from the front and side, there are visible similarities with S22. For example, both have curved side rails and flat displays. The display screen size of S22 and S23 are identical – 6.1 inches, while the same is true of S22 Plus and S23 Plus – 6.6 inches.
Toughest Phones of 2023
The S23 series come protected with the latest Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the front and back. It is worth reminding our readers that Samsung is the first smartphone company which has used this more durable glass on a phone.

Cameras
There is no difference between Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus when it comes to camera specs. This is true of the rear camera setup.
However, the new S23 and S23 Plus selfie cameras come with an upgrade – 12MP instead of 10 MP in S22 and S22 Plus.
The video refresh rate for the newly launched S23 series is 8K at 30fps. Which is slightly faster than what is available in the S22 series.
Battery Size & Charging Speed
In the specs table above, you’d have seen that there are battery size and charging capability differences between the S23 and the S23 Plus. So, let’s look into it.
To begin with, the S23 and the S23 Plus come with bigger batteries than their predecessors. The difference is only 200 mAh but a bigger battery is a bigger battery. S22 and S22 Plus batteries lasted around 8 hours and 10 hours respectively with full load. The new phones’ batteries are expected to last longer than their predecessors.
While the battery size is a slight upgrade, there is no upgrade when it comes to the charging speeds. S23 and S23 Plus have the same charging speeds as of their predecessors.
Samsung Galaxy S23 Performance
Samsung is singing praises of its new “Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy” chipset. Apparently it’s a superior version of the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is great for mobile gaming. However, do not be too impressed yet as both phones come with only 8GB of RAM. This could mean slower multitasking performance.
As expected, the S23 series supports 5G, which means fastest mobile data, though 5G technology is not yet available in Pakistan.

Conclusion: Should You Upgrade?
To answer this question, let’s quickly sum up the strengths and weaknesses of these phones:
Pros | Cons |
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 | Expensive |
Improved selfie camera | No major upgrades from S22 |
Tougher glass |
While these two phones cannot be ignored in terms of their features, power and quality, it is also true that there are no significant major upgrades in them. If you are using an old Samsung phone like Galaxy S21, 20 or older models, switching to Galaxy S23 would make sense as they would provide you with improved:
- Performance
- Battery life
- Design
- Cameras
However, if you are using Samsung Galaxy S22, especially S22 Ultra, you may not want to switch to S23 or S23 Plus. Also, you may be able to find the same, if not better feature that these phones are offering at cheaper prices in other phones. You may be able to find such phones on OLX Pakistan in both new and used conditions.
