Are We Really in Need of Air Purifiers for a Healthy Environment?

Air purifiers are of great importance as they promise cleaner and healthier air around you. But besides these air purifier benefits, there is something more for you to know. Have you ever wondered why we need air purifiers? The research says that the indoor air is more polluted than the air outdoors and has more chances of impact on your health. Here is when air purifiers come to the rescue. Let’s have a look at the more information in the blog.

Why We Need Air Purifiers?

A simple question that might appear in your mind is, why would you need an air purifier at your place? Well! Here is why:

To Have a Clean Environment: You might not be aware of it, but the air around us is not always clean and fresh. This simply means, we do not inhale pure air, which further leads to multiple respiratory problems.

Traps Air Pollutants: Mold, dust, pollen, and other air pollutants are present in the environment. The air purifier helps in removing them from the air. For instance, HEPA filters are known for capturing 99.97% of the pollutants.

Prevention of Diseases: A clean environment promotes a healthier lifestyle and decreases the chance of diseases such as asthma and more.

All of these factors make it important for you to have an air purifier around you.

Impact of Air Purifiers in the Prevention of Asthma in Children

According to research conducted to highlight the impact of air purifiers on Asthmatic children. Around 30 children with asthma participated in this study. It was a randomized crossover trial, which means the children were divided into two groups, and then they were kept in the different environments, first with air purifiers with filters and second with air purifiers without filters.

The study found that the level of pollutants decreased when the air purifiers were working. This has a positive impact on the children, as they require fewer medications. Hence, the air purifiers helped with their asthma.

Indoor Air Pollution

Air pollution, being the biggest reason for health problems, affects people in a significant way. But besides that, indoor pollution is another major factor that makes a significant contribution. Around 90% of the households in the rural areas rely on biomass fuels for different purposes, which leads to high indoor pollution.

According to the World Health Organization, the air particles in the air must not be more than 25 µg/m³. If so, then the air is considered polluted. However, the research found the average PM (particulate matter) level indoors in Pakistani households was 4000 to 9000 µg/m³, hence, polluted indoor air. This further depicted the unfavourable environmental conditions for women and children who spend their time indoors.

What does the research tell us about? It highlights the importance of the indoor clean environment, which can be maintained by installing air purifiers.

Who are More Sensitive To Air Pollution?

Even though everybody needs to take precautionary measures to stay safe from the polluted air, here are some of those who are more sensitive:

Children: As they are in their developing stage and have weak or small airways, which is why they are more sensitive to it. Their immunity level is not strong enough to fight back from air pollutants entering their lungs. Not just this, but if your child spends more time outdoors, they get respiratory issues.

Older People: The age factor plays a crucial role, as older people have reduced breathing ability. With time, their immune system gets weaker and slower, which makes them more sensitive to air pollution.

People Living Near Industrial Lands: The big factories and mills usually release toxic chemicals into the air, which further leads to air pollution. Therefore, people living in such lands are likely to develop diseases due to harmful pollutants in the environment.

Other than this, pregnant women, people working outdoors, and those with health issues such as asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), etc, are more sensitive to the air pollution.

Final Verdict

You might have got your answer to why we need air purifiers after exploring the mentioned information and more. With the increasing air pollution and smog levels in Pakistan, it is important to get the air purifiers installed for the prevention of respiratory and chronic diseases.
