How to Remove Ink Marks from Walls, Fabric and Wood with Household Products

How to Remove Ink Marks from Walls

Toothpaste can work wonders when cleaning your painted walls, Here’s how. 

  1. Apply a small amount of toothpaste to a sponge.
  2. Now rub the sponge over the stain in circular motions.
  3. Wipe the area clean with a clean sponge and warm water.
  4. Leave it to dry.

Repeat the steps if needed. 

If you don’t have toothpaste or don’t want to use it, you can use a hand sanitizer instead, especially an alcohol-based sanitizer. These sanitizers are easy to find in supermarkets. Follow the same steps as above. 

Another option is to use insect or mosquito repellents. Ever since the arrival of Dengue fever in Pakistan, such repellents can be found easily in many households. If you decide to go with this option then make sure the area is well ventilated as such repellents are odorous. 

Follow these simple steps:

  1. Spray the repellent onto the ink stain.
  2. Wait for a few minutes for it to soak.
  3. Now wipe the area clean with a clean cloth and warm water.
  4. Let it dry naturally. 

How to Remove Ink Marks from Wood

If you need to clean ink stains from wood, baking soda is an effective option. Simply follow these steps:

  1. Dissolve one teaspoon of baking soda into five tablespoons of warm water.
  2. Mix well till it becomes a paste.
  3. Now apply this paste onto the stains.
  4. Wait for 10 to 15 minutes.
  5. Wipe off with clean cloth. 

Repeat the steps if the stain doesn’t come off completely. 

If you’re out of baking soda, you can use dishwash liquid soap. To remove ink stains with the help of a dishwash liquid soap, follow these steps:

  1. Add half a teaspoon of dishwash soap to one third cup of warm water.
  2. Mix till a lot of bubbles appear on the surface.
  3. Now with the help of a clean, dry, soft cloth scoop up just the bubbles and apply them over the stain.
  4. Apply the soapy cloth to the wooden surface.
  5. Lightly dabbing should remove the stain from the wood.
  6. Wipe clean.

How to Remove Ink Marks from Fabric

If you need to remove ink stains from clothing or upholstery, you can use hairspray. Follow these steps:

  1. Spray it liberally onto the stain.
  2. Wait for a few minutes.
  3. Now rinse in cool water.
  4. Clean the fabric in your washing machine once the stain has come off completely. 

If not, repeat steps 1-3. This method is ideal for cleaning fresh or wet ink stains. However, if the stain has dried, you may need to repeat these steps a few times.
