Conclusion

The official reason behind this latest price hike remains undisclosed. While it might seem reasonable due to the increased interbank exchange rate since the last adjustment for the GD 110S & GS 150 on May 9, 2023, the rate at which the prices have increased appears disproportionate. This is because the dollar rate has actually decreased, with 1 USD being approximately equal to ~288 PKR on Oct 1, 2023, compared to ~285 PKR on May 9, 2023 (last price hike for GD 110S & GS 150). The difference is only about 1%, yet prices have gone up by nearly 5%, which raises concerns about fairness.

Notably, Suzuki has refrained from increasing prices for the GD 110S and GS 150 models, which were adjusted last month. It’s essential to highlight that Suzuki’s motorcycle sales have been on a year-on-year decline. Consumers are reacting negatively to what they perceive as unfair price hikes, and this is already impacting sales. Suzuki’s production plant closures due to LC issues and reduced demand are further adding to the challenges. These factors are expected to continue to harm sales in the coming days.
