New Speed Limits on Roads
According to the reports, there were 482,870 road accidents reported in Punjab, out of which 4,791 lives were affected in 2025. But that’s not all. Around 75% of fatal motorcycle accidents were recorded. This creates an alarming situation and simply reflects that there is a need for proper road safety and more.
Considering this, the government has announced the new speed limits for motorists on the road and claimed that reducing speeds to 50 kilometres per hour can significantly reduce severe road accidents and mishaps. The motorcycles will not be allowed to exceed the speed of 60 km/h.
Furthermore, the authorities also highlighted that there will be strict monitoring via CCTV cameras and traffic police. This will ensure proper discipline on the roads, and those who fail to meet the requirements will experience high penalties.
