If you’re in Punjab and planning to transfer ownership of a bike or a car, be ready to pay more than before. As per the reports by various media outlets, the Excise Department has increased transfer fees, and the revised rates are already being applied.
Vehicle Type | Old Fee (Rs.) | New Fee (Rs.) | Increase (Rs.) |
Motorcycle | 550 | 605 | 55 |
Cars (650 to 1000cc) | 2,750 | 3,025 | 275 |
Cars (1000 to 1800cc) | 5,500 | 6,050 | 550 |
Cars (Above 1800cc) | 11,000 | 12,100 | 1,100 |
Heavy Transport Vehicles | 5,500 | 6,050 | 550 |
These are small increases, but they add up, especially for people working in the used car market or for families already managing tight budgets. Even someone transferring a bike might pause. Rs. 55 isn’t a lot, but when fuel is expensive, and everything from oil changes to toll tax has gone up, it adds another little pinch.
There’s been no public explanation for this revision. It seems that there’s no press release, no social media post, just a quiet update that slipped into effect. But it’s not hard to guess why. With inflation still biting, the provincial government seems to be looking for ways to bring in more revenue. Some also suggest it might be linked to digital upgrades in the excise system. Fair enough, but for the average person, that’s just another added cost.
So, if you’re selling a car, or buying one from someone, or even just transferring a vehicle within your family, don’t be caught off guard. The fee isn’t what it used to be.
