Mustang Mach-E 2024: Does It Vroom Vroom Like the Mustang GT?

Introduced in 2019, the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E is a family-friendly crossover that shares the Mustang name but focuses more on practicality than the traditional Mustang’s loud, racy appeal. It comes in different trims like the Select, Premium, California Route 1, and GT, offering a range of features and power options. Not the quickest EV, it still stands out for its impressive performance, stylish design, and advanced technology. Most models can go over 250 miles (approx. 402 km) on a single charge, and the GT Performance Edition is particularly quick, reaching 60 mph (approx. 97 km/h) in just 3.7 seconds.

Power & Performance

The Mustang Mach-E offers two battery options: 

• A standard-range 70.0-kWh battery or 
• An extended-range 91.0-kWh pack. 

It comes in rear-wheel drive (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) variants across four trims. The GT and GT Performance Edition models feature AWD with 480 horsepower and up to 634 pound-feet of torque, reaching 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. Less powerful RWD models have 266 or 290 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. AWD trims have horsepower ranging from 266 to 346 and torque from 427 to 428 pound-feet. The Mach-E is praised for its quick acceleration, engaging driving experience, quiet operation, and smooth ride, making it stand out among its competitors.

Spacious Interior and Smart Features

The Mustang Mach-E boasts a unique skateboard-style design with its battery positioned beneath the interior floor, allowing for ample space for passengers and cargo. Inside, you’ll find a sleek dashboard featuring a large vertical touchscreen and a digital gauge cluster. There’s also a convenient storage pocket between the front seats and generous cargo space, providing 29 cubic feet behind the rear seats and up to 60 cubic feet with the seats folded. The Mach-E offers a range of standard and optional features such as customizable ambient lighting, heated front seats and steering wheel, wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof, and a front trunk that doubles as a cooler.

Battery & Charging 

Ford introduced new battery chemistry for certain Mach-E trims in 2023, particularly those with the smaller standard-sized pack. The EPA-estimated range varies from 224 to 312 miles on a single charge across the lineup, depending on the battery size and motor configuration. While not reaching the levels of the longest-range Tesla models, these figures are competitive with other crossover vehicles from major manufacturers. 

All Mach-E models feature fast-charging capability, with the included mobile home charging unit capable of adding up to 30 miles of range per night when plugged into a standard 120-volt outlet, and up to 80 percent battery capacity overnight when plugged into a 240-volt outlet. Ford also offers a more powerful home charging station that, when installed by certified electricians, can add up to 28 miles of range per hour of charging.

Safety Features

The Mustang Mach-E offers a comprehensive suite of driver-assistance technology, including Ford’s BlueCruise hands-free driving system. For detailed crash-test results, consumers can visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. 

Key safety features include: 

• Standard automated emergency braking with forward-collision warning 
• Standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, and 
• Available adaptive cruise control with a hands-free driving mode.

Ford Mustang Mach-E 2024 Price

The cheapest variant, the Select, starts around $45,000, while the most expensive variant, the GT Performance Edition, will cost you around $67,000.

As mentioned earlier, it is available in six trims. If you are confused about which trim is the best, it isn’t necessarily the most expensive one. 

Many believe that the Premium trim stands out, offering significant luxuries not found in the less expensive Select trim. It includes features not available even in the pricier and more powerful California Route 1. Ford claims the Premium model, paired with the extended-range battery and rear-wheel drive, can achieve a driving range of 310 miles, but opting for the all-wheel-drive version reduces the estimated range to 290 miles.

As known, Ford has no official or formal presence in Pakistan, and therefore this EV won’t be launched in Pakistan. However, if it were available, would you buy it? Let us know.
