Magvus Will Be Pakistan’s 1st EV Bike With a Swappable Battery

It seems that Pakistan will experience the electric revolution in two and three-wheeler vehicles much before its four-wheel counterparts, mainly due to cost considerations and the government’s priorities. To accelerate this process, the government has proposed a scheme that offers loans to owners of e-bikes and e-rickshaws at 0% markup.

While many old assemblers and manufacturers of traditional motorcycles and rickshaws have begun to offer e-models in the market, some new startups have also introduced their own models or are about to do so. Zyp Technologies is the latest of these startups, with roots in both the US and Pakistan, and aims to “become a leading contributor to Pakistan’s transition to electric transport”. Magvus is a step in that direction.

However, its best feature is that its battery can be swapped. What is a swappable battery?

Magvus, Pakistan's 1st electric bike with a swappable battery.

As of now, no other e-bike manufacturer in Pakistan is claiming to offer this feature in their models. Therefore, having an e-bike with a swappable battery is a significant advantage.

A swappable battery is a type of battery technology used in electric vehicles where the battery can be quickly removed and replaced with a fully charged battery. This technology allows for the electric vehicle to have longer ranges without needing to wait for the battery to charge.

The swappable battery system typically involves a standardized battery pack that can be easily removed and replaced by the user or a service provider. The battery pack can be charged separately from the vehicle, which means that EV owners can quickly swap out a depleted battery for a fully charged one at a battery-swapping station, similar to how one would fill up with petrol at a petrol station.

However, e-charging stations are in short supply in Pakistan, though the company aims to work on developing battery swap stations. Once the infrastructure is in place, these stations will be able to replace a replenished battery in less than 2 minutes.
