Dewan Motors Will Launch KIA Cars Alongside Lucky Motors?

As per reports by different media outlets, Dewan Farooque Motors Limited (DFML) has signed Technology License Agreement (TLA) with KIA Corporation (South Korea) for the local production and assembly of KIA cars in Pakistan. DFML has notified the Pakistan Stock Exchange about this agreement as per a media outlet.

Currently, Lucky Motors Corporation is the only assembler of KIA cars in Pakistan. The company sells KIA cars like Sportage, Grand Carnival, Picanto, Stonic, and Sorento. And most of these cars are a success story for the company in Pakistan. 

Which Vehicles Will Dewan Motors Bring to Pakistan?

Well, it is too early to predict which cars will be launched by Dewan Motors in partnership with KIA. But, it is expected that the company will bring a separate portfolio of KIA cars to Pakistan. 

Hanif German (Company Secretary at Dewan Farooque Motors) told a major media outlet, “we will have commercial vehicles and others as well in our portfolio”. He also said, “We will operate separately from them. Our vehicles will be different from theirs. We will have ours, and they will have theirs”. 

As per this discussion, we can assume that the company will bring commercial vehicles to Pakistan. Bongo pick-up truck and the Granbird bus are the 2 commercial vehicles that the company can introduce here. The chances of the Bongo pick-up truck are higher as Dewan Motors has experience producing a successful pick-up truck named Shahzore. 

As per KIA Corporation (South Korea), Lucky Motor remains the “exclusive licensee of KIA Corporation to manufacture, assemble, market, distribute, and sell KIA cars and SUVs in Pakistan according to the General Agreement for Technical Collaboration and KD Supply signed between both the parties.”

Dewan Motors is only allowed to sell commercial vehicles, including Bongo. The company cannot sell KIA SUVs or Hatchbacks in Pakistan.

Impact on Customers

As clear now, KIA cars and SUVs will not be introduced by DFML. KIA South Korea has only granted the permission to sell only special purpose vehicles, including PU (Bongo). So, don’t be too excited about the new KIA cars and SUVs to be introduced by Dewan Motors. You can buy KIA cars under the name of Lucky Motors only.
