A Change in the Vehicle Registration System in Punjab!

A Change in the Vehicle Registration System in Punjab!

The government has introduced a new vehicle registration system in Punjab. You might be familiar with the previous system in which the number plates were issued on the basis of vehicles, but there has been a major change now. The vehicle number plates will now be issued in the name of the vehicle owners. Let’s explore more details about the change in the vehicle registration in Punjab.

What is New in the System?

As mentioned earlier, the Excise and Taxation Department has now decided to register the number plates in the owner’s name. But you might be wondering how this system will work? Have a look at the given details:

  • When selling a used vehicle, the owner will keep the number plate.
  • If you already have a number plate issued in your name, you can use it for the new car.
  • The existing vehicle number plate will not be transferred to the new owner when the vehicle is sold.

Implementation of New Vehicle Registration System

The implementation of this new vehicle registration system is expected to be implemented soon in Punjab. Furthermore, you need to know that if you have a number plate and want it on the new vehicle, there is an additional fee charged. It may cost you around Rs. 500 to Rs. 8,000, depending on the vehicle category and number.

Benefits of the New Vehicle Registration System

The following are some benefits of the new vehicle registration system implemented in Punjab:

  • No automatic transfer of the vehicle number; instead, you can keep it for your new vehicle.
  • The number plates will be owned by the vehicle owners and will not be dependent on the cars.
  • This new system will increase security. Any car involved in illegal activities will be identified by the owner’s information traced through the number plates.

Conclusion

To sum up, the vehicles will now have the number plates issued in the owner’s name. When selling your used vehicle, you can keep the number plate allotted to you and use it on the new vehicle. However, this change in the vehicle registration in Punjab will be implemented soon to enhance the safety, prevent vehicle-related crimes, and more.
