The summer of 2023 seems to be all about foldable mobile phones. The competition is getting intense as various mobile manufacturers get ready to launch their new foldable models. OnePlus is one of them. 

Rumor has it that OnePlus is ready to launch its very first foldable phone in August 2023. Named the OnePlus Open, the phone is expected to carry a high price tag compared to other foldables. Though it is expected to come with top-notch hardware, such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, a triple-camera setup on the rear for high-quality photos, and a customized version of OnePlus’ OxygenOS designed specifically for foldable devices.

Let’s delve a bit more into what we know about this phone.

OnePlus Open: Specs & Features

The OnePlus Open is expected to have a customized version of Android called ‘OxygenOS Fold’ designed specifically for this phone. It may feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset from Qualcomm and offer up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. This means the device can function as both a phone and a tablet. Much like a phablet. 

OnePlus Open: Design & Display

With a vertically-hinged design, densign wise it is rumored to be compatible with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. Renders based on a prototype show a book-style foldable with OnePlus’ own touch. It aims to strike a balance between the tall aspect ratio of the Z Fold 4 and the broader Oppo Find N2. The device will likely borrow features from Oppo’s foldables. The renders also reveal a faux leather back, a circular camera module, and a fingerprint sensor in the lock button. 

In terms of screens, the internal display is expected to be a 7.7-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the external screen is said to be a 6.3-inch AMOLED display, also with a 120Hz refresh rate. 

OnePlus Open: Camera & Battery

If rumors are to be believed, then the OnePlus Open will come with a 48MP wide camera, a 48MP ultra-wide camera, and a 64MP telephoto camera. This means it would have a powerful camera setup. The cover screen may have a 32 MP front camera, while the internal display could have a 20MP front camera. 

It is worth reminding our readers that foldable phones aren’t known for their camera performance. Nonetheless, there are several models with impressive photography capabilities that are narrowing the gap with traditional flagship phones. With OnePlus’ partnership with imaging experts Hasselblad, the OnePlus Open is expected to deliver high-quality images, similar to the OnePlus 11. 

In terms of battery, the OnePlus Open may have a 4,800mAh battery with 67W fast charging, making it one of the faster-charging options among foldable phones. 

OnePlus Open Price in Pakistan

While pricing details have not been revealed, it is anticipated to be in a similar range as other foldables like the Google Pixel Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, likely $1,000+, which means Rs.285,000+. The availability of the OnePlus Open is yet to be confirmed, but it is expected to target similar markets as the OnePlus 11, although not all OnePlus 11 markets may receive the foldable device, including Pakistan.
