How to Get a Driving License in Pakistan?
Check your eligibility
There are three basic types of driving licenses in Pakistan. Before applying for one, you should check your eligibility for each. The three types include the following:
- Learner’s license:
This type of driving license is ideal for those who are still learning to drive. Learner’s permit is the initial form of driving license that you will have to sign up for. It is a restrictive license and valid up to six months only.
- Permanent license:
Permanent license is for those who are reasonably skilled at driving. This type of license is eligible for up to five years.
- International Driving Permit
If you are a foreign traveler, then in order to possess a private vehicle in Pakistan you will require an International Driving Permit (IDP).
Keep the category in mind
Apart from the type of license, the category also matters. It depends upon the type of vehicle you are applying for. You will need to qualify for the individual categories if you wish to apply for more than one category. These categories include: non-commercial car/jeep, light transport vehicle, heavy transport vehicle, motorbike/rickshaw, tractor and public service transport.
