Eye Makeup For Beginners: A Step-by-Step Guide

Makeup is a form of art and not everyone is an artist. Like every other form of art, makeup requires skills and A LOT of practice. But as they say, practice makes perfect.

Are you someone who is new to the world of makeup, not knowing which brush to use, how to apply eyeliner or where to apply eyeshadow? Do not worry, we’ve got you covered.

Let’s begin with the basics of applying makeup.

Anatomy Of The Eye

The first thing you should know about makeup, as a beginner, is the anatomy of a human eye. No! This is not a scientific blog. We are only going to talk about the terms that are used to describe different parts of our eye. Knowing these terms is essential in understanding the rest of this blog.

To help you understand better, we have attached a picture which clearly identify different parts of the eye:

  • Outer V: As the name tells you, outer V is a V shaped imaginary line which goes from your upper lash line to your crease. It then connects with another line in the crease which gives it a V shape.
  • Inner Corner: The inner corner of your eye is near your tear duct.
  • Outer Corner: It is the outer section of your eye.
  • Waterline: It is the inner rim between your eye and lashes.
  • Lower Lash Line: It is the area that is under your lower lashes.
  • Upper Lash Line: It is on your upper eyelid where your lashes grow.
  • Crease: The folded area of the skin above the eyelid.
  • Brow Bone: The prominent part right below your eyebrow is called the brow bone. It is present between your eyebrows and your crease.

Now that you know, let’s discuss the tools for eye makeup.

Basic Eye Makeup Essentials and Tools For Beginners

Here is a brief list of items that will help you put together a simple yet beautiful eye makeup.

  • Lash Curler- It will help you keep your lash popping
  • Eye Primer- This is optional but we do recommend it
  • Basic Eyeshadow Palette
  • Brushes- a flat eyeshadow brush and a blending brush
  • Eyeliner Pencil
  • Mascara

Pro Makeup Tip: Investing in good quality tools will ensure that you have a consistent makeup look. It will also save you from spending your money on buying the same tools time and again.

Now that we have covered all the bases, let’s begin the step-by-step guide to a flawless and simple makeup look:

Step-by-Step Guide To Pull Of A Simple Eye Makeup Look

Following are the steps that will help you pull-off a simple eye makeup look:

Step 1:

Start off by applying an eye primer. An eye primer will create a smooth surface on your eye that will help you create a consistent look.

Once the primer absorbs nicely, apply an eyeshadow base that will help your eyeshadow to stick better to your skin. There is no need to worry if you do not have an eyeshadow base – a foundation or concealer will do the job.

Step 2:

For a simple and everyday look, a 4-shade palette will work absolutely fine. 4-shade eyeshadow palettes have a highlighter that is lighter than the skin tone, a contour shade which is 2-3 shades darker, a mid-tone shade and a matte black shade.

Step 3:

Grab the flat brush and glide it on the lightest shade. Apply the eyeshadow on the inner corner of the eyes. The inner corners of your eyes should have the most eyeshadow and then you can blend it outwards. Make sure you tap your brush before you apply the eyeshadow so that any excess amount of product is removed.

Step 4:

Dip the tip of your brush in water, glide it on the eyeshadow and then apply it on your eyes. You will be surprised to see how pigmented it is.

Once you are done with that, use the same color on the arch of your eyebrows to highlight it.

Step 5:

Now, use the mid-tone shade. Take the blending brush, glide it on the eyeshadow and apply it over the crease. Remember that you have to blend it from the outer corner to the inner corner. Make sure you don’t overdo it.

Step 6:

Contouring the eyes is an important part of the overall look. Use the contour shade present in the kit and start applying from outwards and blend into the outer half of the crease.

Make sure you do not blend too high because the mid-tone shade is supposed to be higher than the contour shade.

If you feel overwhelmed with all the terms, refer to the picture above to have a better idea of all the areas of the eye.

Step 7:

Good news! Your eyelid is done.

Now, it is time to proceed to the lower part of the eye. Mix the contour shade and mix-tone color and apply it on the bottom lash. Start applying from the outer corner and keep going until it meets the highlighter.

Step 8:

To complete your eye makeup look, apply the matte black eyeshadow on the corners and near the bottom lash line. This will give you eyes a dramatic look.

You can skip this step if you are going to a daytime event.

Step 9:

Curl your lashes using the lash curler. Apply mascara and eyeliner.

Even though it is going to take time, we wish you to start winging that liner soon!

That’s all folks! That is how you level up your eye makeup game.  If you are looking for eye makeup and its tools, you can find them on OLX Pakistan.
