Govt Cuts Proposed 18% Tax on Solar Panels

The budget 2025-2026 introduced taxes in various fields in Pakistan, including taxes on small cars, hybrid cars, and solar panels. In the recent news, we came to know that the taxes on Hybrid cars were rejected by the government. Besides this, a massive 18% tax was proposed on the import of solar panels. However, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar announced a lower tax rate during a National Assembly session.

Reduction in the Proposed Solar Panels Tax

The government has finally announced a reduction in the tax on solar panels. In the National Assembly session, the Deputy Prime Minister said that the government has agreed on 10% instead of 18% on the solar panel imports this year. It’s an 8% decrease from the initial proposal which bring some relief for the people.

In Pakistan, there are many people who are opting for solar panels and getting them installed. As solar panels are energy energy-efficient solution and help in the reduction of electricity bills, the initially proposed tax would have been a nightmare for people. 

Considering all of this, the imposed tax on the import of solar panels was suggested to support the local manufacturers of Pakistan. Not only this, but the higher sales tax on solar panels will result in a significant decrease in the number of people opting for this energy source.
