Use the 20/20/20 Rule

Our eyes are sensitive and not designed to stare at a certain object for a long period of time. You can use the 20/20/20 rule to give your eyes a break. According to this rule, if you look at the screen for 20 minutes, you have to look at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

Maintain Distance

Keeping your phone or computer too close to your eyes can negatively affect your eyes. If possible, keep your mobile phone or monitor at least 25 inches away from you.

Cut Glare

Screens produce glare which irritates the eyes. To cut out the glare, you can use a matte screen filter. These filters are available for computer screens, mobile phones as well as tablets.

Adjust the Lighting

Does low brightness hurt your eyes? Contrary to popular opinion, less light is actually better for you when you are using a laptop or computer. If your room is too bright, make sure you close the curtains and reduce the use of fluorescent light.

Apart from this, you can also adjust the lighting of your mobile phone screens. Different phones have different customization settings; however, all of them allow you to adjust the brightness, text settings, etc.

Use Night Mode

Latest smartphones come with a night mode. All you have to do is turn on the feature and your phone will adjust the settings keeping in view the time of the day.

You must be thinking “does dark mode help eyes?” Dark or night mode is helpful as it reduces the strain on your eyes.

Limit Use of Device Before Bed

Using electronic devices before going to bed affects your body’s natural sleep-wake cycle. The blue light that is emitted from the screen makes it difficult for you to fall asleep, hence it is suggested that you avoid it before going to bed.
