As environmental pollution and smog kept on increasing in the country, the government took an initiative its reduce. For this purpose, a vehicle emission testing was introduced, granting green stickers to those who passed the test. However, the expiry date for this testing was extended to August 31, 2025, and now that the deadline has passed, the Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has launched a strict crackdown against vehicles without green stickers. Have a look at the blog to know more about this.
Vehicles Without Green Stickers To Face Penalties
Imran Hamid Sheikh, the governor general of the EPA, has decided to take strict measures against those vehicles that have no green stickers. Almost 350,000 green stickers have been granted to the vehicles, but some still don’t have them. The following are the penalties implemented against such vehicles:
First Phase: Warning Slips Being Issued
In the first phase of the crackdown against vehicles without green stickers, the warning slips are being issued to cars without stickers. The vehicles manufactured from 2010 to 2015 are targeted for the warning slips. Not just this, but the warning slips come along with the E-challans.
Second Phase: Fines and Legal Actions
After the first phase of warnings and E-challans, it will lead to fines and legal actions. Vehicles that still have no green stickers will not be allowed to enter Lahore in the upcoming smog season. However, persistent offenders might get their vehicles restricted on the roads.
To avoid these strict penalties, the citizens are advised to get their vehicles a green sticker from the nearby booth. But you will now have to pay for the emission testing since the deadline for the free test has passed.
What Does the Vehicle Emission Test Include?
The vehicle emission test ensures that the vehicle on the road is safe for the environment. This is done by measuring the level of harmful pollutants released by the car, such as carbon monoxide. Besides this, it also ensures the engine performance and silencer functionality.
Getting a green sticker for your vehicle will benefit in different ways, such as full access to roads, no e-challans or warnings. This way, you can play your part in a cleaner and healthier environment in the country.
Conclusion
To sum up, the vehicle emission test was free of cost till August 31, 2025, but now you may have to pay for it. However, a strict crackdown against vehicles without green stickers includes warnings in the first phase, whereas strict legal actions are taken in the second phase. To be safe from all these penalties and strict actions, make sure your vehicle has a green sticker.
