
The Punjab government has taken an initiative to promote a clean environment in the country. For this purpose, the government has announced that it will take strict measures against the smoke-emitting vehicles, aiming to reduce the smog level in the country, which are predicted to rise this year as per a report. Punjab Cracks Down on Smoke-Emitting Vehicles
The officials announced that the number of vehicles contributing to the smoke production has increased by 240% in the country. This leads the government to take immediate action against such vehicles. Muhammad Waqas Nazir, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Punjab Traffic Police, has advised some strict measures:
- No entry of unfit vehicles on motorways.
- No leniency for the owners of smoke-emitting vehicles.
- Traffic police will be inspecting the routes to identify unfit vehicles.
- Fitness certificates for vehicles will be checked.
- Heavy fines are to be implemented on trucks transporting mud or sand without tarpaulin covers.
Pakistan’s NEV Policy is also another way of reducing the smog in the country. This policy aims to increase 30% electric vehicles in the country by the end of 2030. Not just this, but the government also announced to limit the road access for vehicles without green stickers by issuing warning slips and later fines and legal actions.
