Traffic safety in Pakistan has become one of the main priorities of the government. However, the traffic issues in Karachi are at their peak. Considering this, the implementation of the new traffic violation laws by the Sindh Government has been announced, including heavy fines and penalties. Let’s have a look at it in the blog.
Increases in the Traffic Fines For Violations
In recent news, it has been declared that there will be an increase in the traffic fines for violations. This has been announced by Gulam Nabi Memon, who is the Sindh Inspector General of Police.
People committing repeated traffic violations are most likely to experience an increase in fines. The current traffic fine is Rs. 5000, but it will be increased up to Rs. 250,000 or more depending on the severity of the violations.
Consequences of Not Paying Fines on Time
The increase in traffic fines has been made to control repeated traffic violations. But still, there are some people who delay the challan payment. This is considered another violation, and the following penalties will be implemented as the consequences:
- After 21 days (or three weeks), the fine will be doubled
- After 90 days (or two months), the driving license of the driver will be suspended
- If the fine is still not paid, the violator’s national identity card will be blocked after 180 days (or three months).
E-Challan System Soon To Be Implemented by Sindh Government
Currently, in Sindh, there are no e-challan systems, but they are soon to be initiated. Cameras installed on roads will be responsible for creating e-challans, replacing the manually generated challans by the traffic police. The system works by reading the number plate of the vehicles and then sending the challan to the driver’s address. This system was introduced in Lahore as well, which was proven to be beneficial in maintaining the traffic and preventing traffic violations.
Purpose of Strict Traffic Laws
The strict traffic laws may be helpful for the following purposes:
- Regulating traffic order on the road by promoting discipline.
- Preventing traffic jams.
- To decrease the number of accidents on the road.
- Ensuring road safety on Karachi roads.
Conclusion
To sum up, to maintain the heavy traffic, the new traffic laws have been implemented by the Sindh Government. However, it is important to consider the traffic rules for the safety of yourself and your fellow citizens. Know that these new traffic laws will be beneficial for people getting stuck in heavy traffic on a daily basis.
