What is E Challan & How is It Generated?

In major cities like Lahore, traffic violations are detected through an automatic electronic system consisting of traffic signal cameras. Upon violation, this system captures the picture of the vehicle (especially the number plate) and sends the data to the Punjab Safe Cities Authority Traffic Control Center.

After verification (automatic or manual) of the violation, date, time, and location, an electronic challan, also known as an e-ticket or Punjab Safe City e challan is generated. It is sent to the owner of the vehicle via post (a mobile alert may also be issued on the registered number).

It is important to note that violating the traffic rules may lead to action under the Provincial Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965. Upon continuous violations and non-payment of fines, your vehicle might also be seized by the traffic police.
