Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: Is it Worth Upgrading?

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: Is it Worth Upgrading?

Samsung has introduced the S25 series, and it’s getting popular due to impressive AI features and performance enhancements. The top-of-the-line model of this series is the S25 Ultra, and get ready for some major changes that some people will like and some may not. Personally, I feel like the uniqueness of the Ultra series is compromised a little, but some may think the opposite. So, let’s get into the details, changes, and Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra price in Pakistan.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Price in Pakistan

The price of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra starts from $1,299.99 (globally) and can range from Rs. 440,000 to Rs. 500,000 after its launch in Pakistan. The official sales will begin on 7-Feb-2025 globally.

Many mobile experts (including me) thought that the S25 series would come with a little price hike compared to the previous series, but that’s not the case. The S25 Ultra has been introduced at the same price as the S24 Ultra.

I have mentioned the global prices as well as the expected prices in Pakistan after its launch. Keep in mind that the prices may vary due to various factors.

Pros & Cons

Here are the pros and cons of the Galaxy S25 Ultra:

AI Features

The highlight of the Samsung S25 Ultra is the Galaxy AI, and why not? The company has focused a lot on One UI 7 and the new generation of the Galaxy AI tools. Tools like Restaurant Finder & Cooking Master use multimodal LLMs (Large Language Models) that bring photos, text, and voice commands together. It allows you to locate the best eats or recipes using what’s in your fridge with ease.

You will also see an enhanced Circle to Search due to the multimodal integration, including support for a Shazam-like search for the music. The addition of Now Bar, Now Brief, and upgraded settings utilizing natural language, but users may find some similar functionalities in Apple’s Live Activities and Scheduled Summary.

The Now Brief can observe what you do every day and provide suggestions at the start of the morning and evening. You may get weather forecasts, an upcoming appointment list, and some other headlines when you start in the morning. Maps may also provide you with suggestions by observing your activities, like stops you often make while commuting.

The new personalized multimodal ecosystem saves the time to jump between the apps to do specific tasks. However, you will find some of these features in the latest iPhones via Apple Intelligence, and some others are expected to arrive in the upcoming Apple Intelligence upgrade.

Design

After a long time, the iconic boxy design of the Galaxy Ultra series has been changed. It has curved sides like its younger siblings, the S25 & S25+, but the curves are smaller, still giving it some distinction. Personally, I liked the previous boxy shape, and many Ultra lovers also loved that shape. Moving forward, the rear side still retains a similar camera module design.

What I like about the new design is the reduced thickness, which is just 8.2mm now compared to the 8.6mm in the previous generation. The S25 Ultra is also lightweight, thanks to the modified S-Pen (changes will be discussed in the features section).

Overall, the S25 Ultra is quite sturdy due to the grade 5 titanium frame & Gorilla Armor 2 used on the front and back.

Display

Coming to the display of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, it’s 0.1 inch larger, which many people won’t find any different from its predecessor. Also, the Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X, 120Hz, HDR10+, and 2600 nits (peak) is the same technology used in the S24 Ultra. However, Samsung has improved the screen-to-body ratio, which is 92.5% now compared to 88.5% in the previous generation.

Display Size6.9 inches
Resolution1440 x 3120 pixels, 19.5:9 ratio (~498 ppi density)

Performance

Everyone’s talking about the performance enhancement in the Samsung S25 Ultra. It’s mainly due to Qualcomm’s flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite (3 nm), introduced in it. This chipset has AnTuTu scores of over 2,600,000. For comparison, the AnTuTu score of the Galaxy S24 Ultra was 1,800,000. It means the S25 Ultra will perform 40% better than the S24 Ultra. However, it will be hard to notice major differences in the daily performance as the previous chipset was also quite exceptional.

One area where Samsung could have improved a little is the RAM. The 16GB RAM variant with 1TB storage is introduced for specific countries only (Korea, China, and Taiwan). The company could have introduced 16GB RAM for all countries instead of sticking to the old 12GB RAM. Even the OnePlus 13 comes with 16GB and 24GB RAM options.

Camera

If you were eyeing major upgrades in the camera department, the S25 Ultra may disappoint you a little. There is the same 200MP primary camera in it along with the same telephoto and periscopic cameras. However, the ultrawide camera has been upgraded from 12MP to 50MP. The front camera is also the same 12MP as the S24 Ultra.

Still, the camera setup of the S25 Ultra is pretty impressive and highly competitive compared to the Google Pixel 9 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

General Features

Samsung has modified the S-Pen and eliminated the Bluetooth LE-based features. So, goodbye to everything from Air Actions to camera shutter controls. These features have been eliminated due to the reduced interactivity of users and the availability of similar features in other Samsung devices, like the Galaxy Watch and the Galaxy Ring. What a way to promote the other products!

As a result, the S-Pen is lighter as the battery is no more there, contributing to the reduction in the overall weight. Still, I believe it’s not what many Ultra lovers will like, even though most of them didn’t use these features often, but those were useful functionalities that can be handy in some scenarios.

Battery & Charging

There is not much to talk about in this area, as the Galaxy S25 Ultra has the same 45W fast charging support along with a 5000 mAh battery. In my opinion, Samsung could have increased the battery capacity and improved the fast charging support. The wireless charging speed has been increased from 15W to 25W, though. Also, the company has claimed that the S25 Ultra has better battery backup due to software and hardware optimizations.

BatteryLi-Ion 5000 mAh
Charging45W wired, PD 3.0, 65% in 30 min
25W wireless (Qi2)

Conclusion

In the end, upgrading to the Galaxy S25 Ultra can be tricky for people who already have the S24 Ultra. Especially if you liked the shape of the previous model and loved the Bluetooth S-Pen, this new model is not going to fascinate you. However, if I were to buy it, I would do it due to its advanced and personalized AI features and the massive performance boost, as both enhancements have impressed me a lot.
