LESCO Puts a Ban on Green Meter Used in Solar Panel System

Hold yourselves steady for we come bearing sad news today. Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has us on the edge of our seats as it imposes a ban on green meters used in solar panel systems. This might be worrisome for those who already had solar panel systems installed or were thinking of getting one. For more details regarding the news, keep on reading!

Green Meter to Shift to AMI Meter

The banning of green meters by the government is certainly uncalled for. The news announced by Sarwar Mughal (Director Customer Services LESCO) has put many in a quandary state. Apart from enforcing the ban, LESCO has announced for the green meters to be replaced with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters.

As per various media reports, LESCO will hand over the No-objection certificate (NOC) to the consumers of green meters so they can have AMI meters installed. Based on the NOC, the consumers will have to carry out the purchase and installation of the new AMI meters from the market themselves.

Moreover, the replacement of green meters to AMI meters will cost the consumers around Rs.20,000 additionally. Unfortunately, following this order is a compulsion. Therefore, the amount of approximately 20k will have to be endured by the solar panel consumers already having a green meter.

Takeaway

To conclude, this decision by the government may not sit right with most solar panel consumers due to the additional amount they will have to pay. Hence, the financial burden that comes along with the shift of the green meter to the AMI meter may have unwelcoming reception among the inflation hit people.
