Another Chinese auto manufacturer – BYD is interested in building a vehicle manufacturing plant in Pakistan.
Based in Shenzhen, BYD is a leading Chinese manufacturer of hybrid and electric vehicles. In 2021, it was reported that the company had joined hands with Sapphire Group with the aim of manufacturing and selling commercial and electric vehicles in Pakistan.
BYD is known for models like Song Max/Song Pro/Song, Yuan, Han, Tang, Qin/Qin Pro and others.
Currently, BYD is enjoying a significant presence in various international markets including South America, Russia, and Australia, especially with their commercial, all-electric vehicles including trucks and electric buses. However, the passenger vehicle lineup is more popular in Russia, Australia, Latin America and China among a few others.
Recently, a BYD vehicle was spotted in Rahim Yar Khan. BYD-M3 Electric, a 7-seater electrical vehicle, is owned by Sapphire Energy Private Limited. The car is a right hand driving unit and it is hard to say if it is being tested for a launch or if the company is using it for some other purposes.
