Lahore is All Set To Celebrate the 3 Day Basant 

Yes! It is now official. Lahore will be celebrating the three-day Basant from February 6, 7, and 8, 2026. The Government has announced some strict rules and regulations to be followed by the citizens to ensure safety and security in check. Let’s explore them in the blog. 

Terms and Conditions For Basant 2026

The following are some terms and conditions that will be announced by the officials recently: 

  • The permissible kite flying material will be allowed for trading from December 30, 2025, to February 8, 2026. 
  • The general public will be getting the permissible flying kite material from February 1 to February 8, 2026.
  • The manufacturers and sellers need to get registered online via the e-Biz app.
  • The officials also specified the kite size. 
  • Kite Size: It should not be more than 35 inches in width and 30 inches in length. 
  • Gudda Size: It should not be more than 40 inches in width and 34 inches in length.
  • Not just this, but the officials also specified the kite string material. The rule says that the kite string should only be made of cotton. Up to 9 threads and a minimum of 28-count with a minimum sheesha size of 350 mash. 
  • The kite string should be in the form of a pinna or twinne ball. 
  • Anyone seen using charkhi (spool) or harmful material string will have to experience strict action. 
  • The manufacturers or sellers should not supply sharp maanjha nylon or plastic cords, metallic wire, or any other dangerous material coated on the thread.
  • The Basant 2026 notification also strictly announced that the manufacturing and trading of the material will be recorded completely. The authority ensures the smooth and safe conduct of this cultural festival. 
  • Considering the chances of mishaps for the motorists, they are strictly advised to get safety wires on bikes

Key Highlights of the Safe Basant Security Plan

After reviewing the Basant-related data of the past years, the officials have submitted a security plan to the Lahore High Court. The following is what is included in the plan: 

  • Lahore has been divided into three zones: red (high risk), yellow (medium risk), and green (low risk).
  • The zones will be under 24/7 surveillance through drones and cameras to ensure proper monitoring. 
  • 48 road safety camps to be established in the red zone areas. 
  • The areas include Walled City, Mall Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Mughalpura, Harbans­pura, Shimla Hill, Dharampura, Shadman, Nishtar Colony, Multan Chungi, and Defence.
  • 32 safety camps for the yellow zone areas, including MAO College Chowk, Ichra, Qartaba Chowk, Dubai Chowk, Barkat Market, Bhatta Chowk, Saddar, Askari-10, and Allah Hoo Chowk. 
  • 20 safety camps for green zone areas, including Liberty Chowk, Wateen Chowk, Gajju Matta, Gulberg, and Bhobtian Chowk.
  • Every string ball needs to have a QR code so that no illegal products are sold. 
  • 5,000 free rickshaws will be operating in Lahore during Basant days. 
  • The officials also strictly advised not to be involved in illegal activities on rooftops, such as gun firings and more. 
  • Police will strictly inspect rooftops and will conduct flag marches for public security. 
  • Rescue-1122 to provide first-aid services and Lesco to ensure power safety in the city.
