Pakistan’s First National Electric Vehicle Policy 2025-30 Launched by PM 

Previously, we had a look at Pakistan’s first-ever National Electric Vehicle Policy 2025-30. But in the recent news, the PM Shehbaz Sharif has officially launched this EV Policy. However, he emphasized the importance of this policy being a beneficial one for Pakistan’s struggling conditions of climate change. What is the Aim of Pakistan’s NEV Policy? 

The following is what Pakistan’s NEV Policy aims for: 

  • 30% of EVs by 2030 
  • 3000 charging stations 
  • Reduced petroleum imports 
  • A decrease in the country’s air pollution 

During the ceremony held in Islamabad, the Prime Minister addressed that, besides minimal contributions to global emissions, Pakistan is among the ten countries vulnerable to climatic disasters such as floods, etc. 

Talking of floods, Shehbaz Sharif referred to the 2022 flood due to monsoon rain, which killed 1,700 people and caused USD 30bn in damages in the country. Therefore, the meeting also emphasized the importance of shifting to EVs, which will not only help in climate change but will also lead to further job opportunities. Not to forget, the Chinese Automobile Group has also announced plans to build an EV plant in Punjab soon. 

What is Included in the Policy? 

The following are the inclusions in the NEV Policy:

  • Subsidies for electric motorbikes.
  • Distribution of 100,000 laptops among high-performing students. 
  • 10% quota reserved for students from Balochistan

Besides these inclusions, the government will also soon propose an increase in the current Rs. 9 billion education support budget in the coming year. 

Conclusion 

To sum up, the country is all set to experience a shift to electric vehicles. Pakistan’s National Electric Vehicle Policy aims the 30% of EVs by 2030, with other initiatives such as building charging stations. Besides this, in the launch of the NEV Policy, the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the importance of opting for EVs and helping the country in preventing climatic disasters.
