Five Companies to Establish Assembly Lines in Pakistan
Five companies have submitted applications to establish mobile phone assembly lines in Pakistan. The development is set to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) worth millions of dollars. Guidelines were issued by PTA to attract foreign investments from mobile companies. This is also an attempt to bring down the prices of smartphones as their demand is continuously increasing.
The companies that are seeking the government’s approval to establish assembly lines are Haier, Mobo mobiles, G5, Foxconn and Jio phone.
China has been the hub of mobile phone manufacturing for many years due to cheap labor. The resulting economic boom, has led to an increase in labor costs, which is also impacting cellphone prices in the international market. As a result, companies are now looking for other similar markets like Pakistan and India.
