How to Change a Tire – A step-by-step guide
Worried you don’t know how to change a tire? Fortunately, this step-by-step guide that will prove to be useful to you, should you end up with a flat tire!
Things you will need:
- A jack
- A wrench
- A spare tire
- An able set of limbs
- Common sense
Don’t panic; find a safe, flat spot to pull over. Turn on your hazard lights.
Step 2: Remove the cap and loosen the lug nuts by turning the wrench counter-clockwise. If the nuts are too tight, you can stand on the wrench and use your bodyweight.
Step 3: Use the jack to lift the vehicle about 6 inches off the ground.
Step 4: Remove the lug nuts – you can do it with your fingers when they’re loose – and pull the tire out by pulling it straight toward yourself. It’s not too heavy if you use good form.
Step 5: Replace the tire with the spare one by lining up the lug nut posts with the holes in your spare. Then push it all the way in.
Step 6: Put on the lug nuts. Don’t try to tighten them too much.
Step 7: Lower the car back on the ground and remove the jack.
Step 8: Tighten the lug nuts – you will do this by turning them clockwise. Now this part is the only tricky one – instead of tightening them one by one, tighten one about 50% and then move on to the opposite nut, tightening it to the same extent. When all of them seem sturdy, tighten each nut as tightly as possible.
There you have it, it’s that simple! Oh and if you’re looking for spare tires or other props that will help with the tire-changing process, check out a few options on OLX!
